Drawing inspiration from the breathtaking scenery of Vancouver, Whistler, and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, his work reflects a deep connection to the natural world and a passion for artistic exploration.
Each of Graham's paintings invites viewers to experience landscapes not just as observers but as participants in the serenity and majesty of nature. He immerses himself in the environment, exploring and studying the landscape to experience firsthand the energy of a place—the scale, colors, lighting, textures, and the feelings that arise within. This dedication allows him to convey the true essence of the wilderness in his art.
Graham loves working with oil paints for their texture and luminosity, enjoying the process of mixing colors. He feels more like a sculptor trying to chisel rock to achieve a 3D effect, capturing the snowy and rugged terrain of mountains or finding the soul in his depictions of bears. Recognizing that viewers only see the final result, he acknowledges the time and sometimes struggle it takes to reach the desired outcome in his paintings.
Originally from Guelph, Ontario, Graham Watts moved to the west coast over 25 years ago.
