Nick Barrows and Jay Reynolds are long-time friends who wanted to collaborate on a most extraordinary project -- to develop a soundtrack to a John Carpenter film that doesn’t exist. They named the project after the main character in Carpenter’s The Thing , played by Kurt Russell.

PaoliFest is a joint venture between Black Vulture Project and Jordana Greenberg, a local musician and internationally touring performer who credits the musicians she encountered in Paoli among the influences that have shaped her career. I spoke a couple of hours ago by phone with the great guitarist Derek Trucks who's coming into town at the PNC Pavilion on Sunday, July 22nd with the Tedeschi Trucks Band along with the Drive-By Truckers & the Marcus King Band . We talked about how the recent heat wave has affected the band and their instruments, and how this year's tour differs from last year's with the Wood Brothers and Hot Tuna.
