Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints aren't out of the NFC playoff race yet thanks to a wild and unpredictable NFL season.

The Los Angles Rams loss to the San Francisco 49ers is an example of just how unprecedented the NFL has been this season, particularly the NFC. Now, the New Orleans Saints, even at 5-4 are still well within the conversation for a post season appearance. But they'll have to get out of their own way in order to take advantage.

Is a playoff exit better than better NFL Draft positioning in 2022? Appealing to free agents might be the better path than a potential long-term development option at rookie.

How the Saints loss to the Titans looks by the numbers. Marshon Lattimore struggles, Trevor Siemian and Ryan Tannehill distribute the ball effectively, but one key difference might have hurt the Saints' production.

The New Orleans Saints lose to the Tennessee Titans 21-23 in Nashville. A questionable roughing the passer call, more penalties, slow start, and self-produced obstacles plague Saints in this loss. Are the Saints done? Down for the count? Why the season isn't lost despite another tough loss.

Sean Payton, Demario Davis, Trevor Siemian, and more all point out a need to get the details. So what went wrong for the Saints? Why the season is absolutely salvageable and what it'll take to keep it alive.

A treacherous four possession series might have stifled the Saints beyond overcoming. Starting with Kaden Elliss' questionable roughing the passer call, two untimely sacks, a Deonte Harris fumble, and wrapping up with a second redone touchdown surrendered, what could have been substantial momentum for the Saints, flips in the midst of another slow start.

The good notes start with Marcus Davenport. Once a player fans wanted on the trading block, now looks like the Saints most fearsome pass rusher and run defender. Running back Mark Ingram becomes the Saints all-time leader in rushing yards, and Deonte Harris, despite his fumble, continues to show development into a more complete receiver. Why Demario Davis isn't giving up on his team, and why you shouldn't either.

The New Orleans Saints might have missed out on adding Odell Beckham Jr, but the Tennessee Titans present valuable opportunity for Deonte Harris and Marquez Callaway to build on a strong fourth quarter against Atlanta. Alvin Kamara may be unavailable, but Mark Ingram has been the lead back before, can he keep the run game productive in Nashville?

Odell Beckham Jr. is on his way to join the Los Angeles Rams, so the New Orleans Saints will have to improve their pass-catching woes with the receivers and tight ends already in the facility. Spacing, drops, separation have all been an issue. But creativity, match ups, and versatility are key to how the Saints can improve their situation in-house.

Alvin Kamara seems likely to miss Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, but the Saints should still focus on dominating the run game. Even with injuries on the offensive line throughout the season, New Orleans has been productive on the ground. Mark Ingram's return looks all the more timely and equips the Saints with someone who is scheme-versatile, familiar with the system, and yards away from a franchise record. New Orleans also has unique players who can help change the pace, including a potential practice squad elevation along with Ty Montgomery and Taysom Hill.

The Saints receivers have taken a lot of criticism this season, but the one area of the game they've excelled all year, particularly Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harris, has been against Zone coverage. Janoris Jenkins, Elijah Molden, and the Titans' defense rely heavily on coverage schemes that could help the Saints rebound in the passing game.

Even if New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara can't go on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, A.J. Brown, and Julio Jones. The Saints and their defense can be competitive. The pivotal role played by Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Cameron Jordan, and more this weekend.

The Tennessee Titans are one of the hottest teams in football right now while the New Orleans Saints re-engage their search for an identity without Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas. The road may get a little bumpier for New Orleans if star running back Alvin Kamara is also unable to go this weekend.

Key matchups come down to limiting pressure from Bud Dupree and the Titans pass rushers, locking down start wideouts A.J. Brown and Julio Jones with talents defensive backs like Marshon Lattimore, Paulson Adebo, and Bradley Roby, and establishing a run game with Mark Ingram.

A win for each team rests on wining in the trenches, controlling the turnover battle, dominating the red zone, and controlling the clock and field position. Head coaches Sean Payton and Mike Vrabel have similar formulas for success and must find ways to get it done without key starters.

Can the New Orleans Saints really sell Odell Beckham Jr. on making the leap to the Big Easy? New Orleans Saints WR Deonte Harris finally saw his court case stemming from his offseason arrest come to a close. One year of supervised probation and no guilty verdict could be good news for the Saints' leading receiver. However, the NFL will have their own process that could lead to three games of suspension based on the CBA. Losing Deonte Harris would be yet another huge blow to the Saints offense that has struggled in the passing game so far this season.

Already down Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas, Deonte Harris has been the most consistent part of the Saints passing game outside of Alvin Kamara. And with Odell Beckham Jr. sure to have several suitors if he clears waivers, the Saints may be short on options to help themselves if they lost Harris for any amount of time. How Deonte Harris, Marquez Callaway, Kenny Stills, Adam Trautman, and other passing game options have fared and what it means without their top option.

A deep dive into the Saints loss to the Atlanta Falcons by the numbers. How the perfect storm of uncharacteristic inefficiencies forced the team to play out of their comfort zone and what they might have learned about the rest of their season at quarterback because of it. Marcus Davenport, Cameron Jordan, and David Onyemata all had stand out performances on the defensive line while passing coverage struggled at every other level. What it could mean for rookie Paulson Adebo, especially with C.J. Gardner-Johnson's injury looking not so good.

The New Orleans Saints were very close to a huge comeback victory against the Atlanta Falcons. What went wrong, where the Saints need help, and the little bit of good news to come from all of this.

While Trevor Siemian put together a valiant effort, some uncharacteristic play by the Saints defense, and continued struggles by the pass-catchers kept them from sealing the deal.

Could Odell Beckham Jr be the answer? Will the Saints shift to Taysom Hill? Will anyone aside from Deonte Harris emerge with Michael Thomas out for the rest of the season? Lots of questions linger after a disappointing loss to the Falcons.

The New Orleans Saints have named Trevor Siemian their starting quarterback heading into this weekend’s matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. While the Saints have maintained competitive edges with five quarterbacks over the last three seasons, a win this weekend won’t be easy and should not be taken lightly. Head coach Sean Payton has done wonders to keep this team afloat amidst unimaginable adversity. Meanwhile, WR Odell Beckham Jr. could be the answer at WR, so much so that the Saints tried to trade for him at the deadline, but the Browns wouldn’t budge. Now they’ve been forced to move on from him, but is it too late for New Orleans?

With Trevor Siemian starting at quarterback, it’s not mystery that Taysom Hill will see his fair share of snaps at the position as well. How he, Alvin Kamara, and Mark Ingram play a key role in a win vs. the Atlanta Falcons and two more keys to victory that include reintroducing old friends Cameron Jordan and Matt Ryan as many times as possible.

Doug Mouton of WWL-TV joins the show to talk Saints QB, WR, and much more. Why the New Orleans Saints should be considered favorites against the Falcons despite the whirlwind of news around the team this week.

The New Orleans Saints have been on the wrong side of the news cycle all week. Jameis Winston is out for the season and Michael Thomas won't be making his return. But do the Saints still have enough to remain competitive? Their first matchup to prove their viability will be against a familiar foe, the division rival Atlanta Falcons.

Will Taysom Hill be the Saints' starting quarterback? Or will his role as a receiver be too invaluable, paving the way for Trevor Siemian to get his first start in numerous years? Who will matchup with Falcons' receiving threat Kyle Pitts? Will Cam Jordan have another successful outing against Matt Ryan?

Ross Jackson of Locked On Saints and Aaron Freeman of Locked On Falcons break it all down in this week's crossover episode previewing the Saints and Falcons' Week 9 NFL matchup.

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has suffered a setback in his recovery from the ankle injury that's kept him hampered since the opening week of 2020. Now that he will not return in 2021, the New Orleans Saints, who are also without starting QB Jameis Winston for the year, will need to figure out how best to bolster their passing game.

Exploring how the passing game shifted when Trevor Siemian was in at quarterback, nearly doubling the amount of passing over the middle of the field, and attacking the short-intermediate areas while taking fewer shows downfield. Is this the future of the New Orleans Saints in 2021 without Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas?

The team tried to land another receiver at the trade deadline with names like Odell Beckham Jr. and Darius Slayton both being connected to the team. Without being able to land then, the Saints will have to rely on a depleted market and the same roster they've had so far this season. But one player would help deliver a boost. But the question is: will his value be greater as a pass-catcher or a passer? Could Taysom Hill, once recovered, be what the team needs with Trevor Siemian under center? Or should Taysom Hill take the reins as a dual-threat QB?
