Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton discussed several decisions throughout this weekend's loss to the New York Giants. Highlighting where execution factored in for better or worse. Would Coach Payton call the Taysom Hill pass again? What about passing on the 42-yard field goal? What went right on Jameis Winston's TD pass to Kenny Still that called back vs. what went wrong on the Taysom Hill interception targeting Deonte Harris?

Peter Werner had a fantastic performance, he, Payton Turner (when healthy), and Paulson Adebo have been standouts as rookies. But Werner in particular has helped to alleviate the big loss of Kwon Alexander who is now available to come off of injured reserve but may need more time to recover from his injury.

Paulson Adebo struggled in the third game of his career after several good games to open up the season. Is it time to move to Bradley Roby? Or will maintaining his confidence long term be more important? What happened in the areas that Adebo usually thrives in were replicated in Marshon Lattimore's game and may show that Adebo deserves another show before pulling him out of the starting role.

The New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton receiving criticism for play calling in 27-21 overtime loss to the New York Giants. Jameis Winston and the Saints passing attack looked to be meshing well until one key decision, followed by a curious drought, set up a turning point.

Meanwhile, the Saints defense struggled when it mattered most, allowing over 200 passing yards to Daniel Jones and company in the fourth quarter and lone OT possession. Demario Davis, Cameron Jordan, and Malcolm Jenkins all took on accountability for the defense's woes, but there were struggles all over as the game closed out.

What needs to shift for the Saints and why is it important to do so sooner rather than later? The Washington Football Team could make things challenging for the gauntlet that awaits the Saints after the bye week.

Alvin Kamara should have a feature role on offense helping move the ball up and down the field through both the run and passing game. Meanwhile the passing game and Jameis Winston have a golden opportunity to pick up the pace against the weakened Giants offense.

Keep a keen eye on Cesar Ruiz now that Will Clapp is off of IR, as well as Calvin Throckmorton and James Hurst who will be debuting in place of the injure Terron Armstead. Can the receivers get going against the Giants secondary? And will the Saints defense continue to impress?

The most important player on the defensive side in this game will be Demario Davis as he QBs the top-6 defense waiting to match up with a hampered Giants passing attack and offensive line. Meanwhile, Adam Trautman could have a key role in the success fo the team on Sunday. As well the New Orleans Saints fanbase as Who Dat Nation will be in full effect at the Caesars Superdome.

New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson has made the succession plan for the team and their NBA partners the New Orleans Pelicans public. A remarkably gracious plan that will help to bolster the New Orleans community and that hopes to keep the Saints and Pelicans in the city long-term even if purchased by someone outside of the region.

On the offensive side, the New Orlean Saints should be leaning on star running back Alvin Kamara. New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez is out for the season and his young replacement is dealing with a hamstring injury. That should open the for for a huge game from AK.

On the defensive side, the Saints should be focused on not shooting themselves in the foot. They have the clear edge over the Giants, and the who dat nation may be the biggest key of all.

The New Orleans Saints and star running back Alvin Kamara should present a very tough matchup for the New York Giants this weekend. After losing LB Blake Martinez for the season, the Giants may have no answer for how to defend Kamara, particularly in the passing game.

The task doesn't get much easier for the Giants on the other side of the ball as they deal with two hamstring injuries for WRs Darius Slayton and Sterling Shephard. The Saints' defense has been on fire to start of the season allowing only 14 points per game and ranking third against the run. If New Orleans shuts down Saquon Barkley, the Giants might have to rely on QB Daniel Jones and the hampered air attack against Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Marcus Williams and the rest of a talented Saints defense.

And they'd have to do so while the Saints get their of a full-capacity Caesars Superdome as well. The first of which since January of 2020.

The New Orleans Saints have yet to pass for more than 200 yards through the air. But fans shouldn't be concerned about the production thus far. Jameis Winston, Marquez Callaway, and the Saints offensive line need time to settle in. With reps will come trust, cohesion, and most important of all, timing.

The Saints defense is the real deal. Ranking top-ten or top-five in many important statistical categories, the unit is operating much better than expected led by some impressive individual performances. Marshon Lattimore is the highest ranked cornerback by Pro Football Focus, Demario Davis is playing like the best defender in football, the defensive line is putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and the team is tied at the top of the league in turnover differential. Topped off by excellent safety play and impressive rookie debuts, the Saints defense can take their team a long way.

Doug Mouton of WWL-TV joins the show to break down why the Saints passing attack woes shouldn't be of tremendous concern thanks to their run game and defense. Doug also highlights what to expect from the Saints as they host the Giants on Sunday and how a packed Caesars Superdome impacts the team's first full-capacity home game since January of 2020.

The New Orleans Saints claimed a statement win in Foxborough against the New England Patriots, but lost a yet another key player for extended time after star tackle Terron Armstead suffered an elbow injury. Armstead is expected to miss three to six weeks and thus could go to injured reserve. Expect James Hurst to step into his role in his stead.

While the Saints may be adding another name to IR, five players are now eligible to return, depending on their injury recovery. Wil Lutz and Tre'Quan Smith could be two important players making their way back to the active roster in the coming weeks. Nick Vannet, Will Clapp, and Ken Crawley could all be of great value as well.

The Saints are finally back in the Big Easy and excited to get back to their long-awaited Caesars Superdome opener. This will be the first fully-attended New Orleans Saints game since the January 5th, 2020 playoff exit against the Minnesota Vikings. The Who Dat Nation is ready to make some noise and a top-5 NFL defense will be ready for their help.

The Saints knocked the Patriots down some key efficiency rankings on the offensive side. However, the Saints and Giants are evenly matched on offensive efficiency so for this season. The difference? The Saints will be facing the Giants 28th ranked defense in terms of efficiency while New York may struggle to topple the 2nd ranked unit in New Orleans. This could be a good opportunity for the Saints offense to kick into gear.

But the biggest reason for this highly ranked Saints team comes down to the stars on the defense. Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Marcus Williams, and others have led the way to start the season allowing only 14 points per game.

The New Orleans Saints embrace their new identity in bounce-back win against the New England Patriots on the road. Getting back key contributors on defense like Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Tanoh Kpassagnon payed dividends for the Saints as they piled on 11 QB hits, two sacks, and three interceptions.

The stars of this game weren't limited to the defense though with 100+ scrimmage yards from Alvin Kamara in a ground attack that proved relentless against the Patriots front seven. The Saints pulled together a key drive late to put the game away before. game-sealing interception erased a possible late score.

On today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson breaks down the biggest moments and key contributors, hands out gameballs for each phase of the game, and dives into the Saints' new identity and why they should continue to embrace it as the teams gets healthier and more in-rhythm as the season progresses.

The New Orleans Saints are elevating WR Kenny Stills and C Austin Reiter. Though Reiter will likely be an emergency option at his position, the expectation is that Stills' highly-anticipated return to New Orleans will lead to him seeing playing time. How much will he factor in and how much does his play style match the Saints' current offense?

Locked On Saints listeners also sent in a ton of questions for the bonus episode. Does the Saints' current playstyle limit Jameis Winston? Will Marquez Callaway get going? Will Taysom Hill be more involved this week?

On the defensive side, a healthy Pete Werner could mean a short leash for Zack Baun who's transitioning to off-ball linebacker. Meanwhile, the Saints continue to get healtier on defense with Marshon Lattimore and C.J. Gardner-Johnon returning after missing last week's action and Tanoh Kpassagnon and Payton Turner on pace to be available as well.

The New Orleans Saints will look to bounce back in Week 3 against the New England Patriots following a disappointing loss to the Carolina Panthers last week.

On the offensive side, a big day from star running back Alvin Kamara would go a long way against a Patriots defense that gave up more than 4.9 yards per carry to the New York Jets in Week 2. Saints quarterback Jameis Winston and the offense line which struggled last week will be looking to improve upon their Week 2 performances as well.

With any rookie quarterback, pressure is key. The Saints will look to pressure Mac Jones and limit his safety nets throughout the offense. New Orleans will hope to return both Marshon Lattimore and C.J. Garner-Johnson for this matchup. Both of which would play large roles in the success of the Saints this weekend.

WWL-TV's Ricardo LeCompte joins to discuss where New Orleans will improve heading into Week 3, why the maturation of Jameis Winston is important, and which players recovering from injury could have the biggest impact against the Patriots.
