Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

Today's Locked On Saints walks through the performances of Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, Marquez Callaway, Paulson Adebo, and more after an in-depth film study.

Though both quarterbacks had very good moment, the key differences between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill on full display on tape. Breaking down both of Winston and Callaway's big touchdowns, Taysom Hill's touchdown and more key moments.

Marquez Callaway is on the verge of a special season and one area of Lil'Jordan Humphery's game continues to stand out. Callaway has the talent, opportunity, and the support of an offense that wants to attack deep. A perfect formula for a huge season following a very impressive offseason thus far.

With Ken Crawley sidelined over the next couple of weeks, the door is left ajar for Paulson Adebo to possibly walk through. The outstanding play of safeties Marcus Williams, Malcolm Jenkins, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson (Ceedy Duce) help to alleviate potential concerns around a young CB2 and Adebo has the traits and physicality to step up.

Knowing what happened during Monday's win is important, but host Ross Jackson breaks down how it all came together.

The New Orleans Saints had to make five roster moves in order to be compliant with the NFL's 80-man roster limit before Tuesday afternoon. They moved three players, DL Jalen Dalton, OL Ethan Greenidge, and CB Brian Poole to injured reserve while waiving punter Nolan Cooney and waived-injured LB Marcus Willoughby. But while there are 80 players on the Saints' roster, several players continue to be unavailable like WR Tre'Quan Smith and rookie edge rusher Payton Turner

While their injuries are not expected to be serious, their absences combined with recent injuries to Ken Crawley and Adam Trautman feel a bit precarious. However, rookie LB Pete Werner is back in action at practice and some better news than expected in regards to Marshon Lattimore's offseason arrest may be on the way.

WWL-TV Sports Director Doug Mouton joins Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson to discuss whether or not Jameis Winston did enough to win the QB battle on Monday night, how special Marquez Callaway's offseason has been, and the unique opportunity that awaits rookie corner Paulson Adebo.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback battle has been raging all offseason and it finally looks like there might be a winner. Though head coach Sean Payton was reluctant to name a starter in the Big Easy following the Saints' 23-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, there was one performance that could not be denied on Monday night. Jameis Winston put on a show with the help of second-year receiver Marquez Callaway to the tune of two touchdown connections. Winston was efficient throwing 9/10 for 123 yards as well. Meanwhile, Taysom Hill looked to struggle until showing a little bit more comfort in a late hurry-up game situation.

Taysom Hill added a touchdown of his own, but it might have been too little too late. While the quarterbacks battled it out, a key piece of the Saints offense was hurt and could miss time. Saints tight end Adam Trautman was carted off the field with an apparent foot or ankle injury. X-rays came back negative, but a Tuesday MRI will reveal more information.

Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson also breaks down what performances stood out on Monday night for better or for worse.

All signs pointed to this Monday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars being a pivotal point in the New Orleans Saints quarterback battle between Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Now, according to reports, it seems all but confirmed that the team would like to settle this competition before the preseason Week 3 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. Here's what each Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will need to do to leave no doubt in their claim to the starting position.

On offense, the New Orleans Saints won't just be looking at the QB battle, the wide receivers the signal callers will be throwing to are in flux, the running backs behind them are fighting for positioning behind NFL top-100 player Alvin Kamara, and the offensive line will be looking to solidify its second unit while the rest of the NFL struggles to find depth.

On defense, the Saints will look to figure out their second cornerback opposite Marshon Lattimore. Paulson Adebo and Ken Crawley battle it out for one for the most premier positions on the team. Meanwhile, Zack Baun hopes to follow up an impressive performance in the first preseason game and training camp with another standout outing. Same for Marcus Davenport, who is turning heads this offseason.

On today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson knows how important it is for the leading actor to be on stage for a final dress rehearsal. If the New Orleans Saints truly intend to treat the third preseason game this year as they would in a four-game preseason, they should have their starting quarterback selected, even if only internally in time for his final rehearsal. The playbook, the communication, and the success of the team could be better off with a clear vision as soon as possible.

Then, Ross takes questions from the Locked On Saints Facebook Group and YouTube comments. The Saints still don't have a kicker, the production of the defensive line shouldn't make you worry about the offensive line, the biggest surprises of camp, the biggest disappointment, and why UDFA rookie has the best chance to make the Saints' roster are all discussed along with much more.

Camp Day 16 notes have some standout performances from new and returning players. Newly signed WR Kevin White catches a touchdown pass in his first day, Tre'Quan Smith makes several plays in his return, and Marcus Williams walks off with another camp interception. Meanwhile, each Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill continue their up and down performances.

The New Orleans Saints will have some tough decisions to make as they are set to make another five-player cut after Monday's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But the next week, they'll be looking to get down to the regular season 53-man roster. On the offensive side, Tony Jones Jr. threatens veteran running backs Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman for a spot. The wide receiver room continues to shed players and add new players. Kevin White tries to revitalize his career with Sean Payton.

On the defensive side, the Saints' linebacker unit has gone from massive concern to one of the team's most solid units. Chase Hansen and Andrew Dowell fight for spots behind Demario Davis, Kwon Alexander, Zack Baun and more. Meanwhile the cornerback spot opposite Marshon Lattimore still hangs in the balance. Ken Crawley and Paulson Adebo look like the most logical choices, however new faces and young players still need to fill out the depth. The interior defensive line took some bumps and bruises over the offseason, and the players that are filling the gap are only partially those we expected as Jalen Dalton and Christian Ringo continue to ascend and Shy Tuttle heads down the camp depth chart.

New Orleans Saints training camp day 15 was action packed with a standout performance by Taysom Hill, some ups and downs from Jameis Winston, and a dominating display by Cam Jordan and the defensive line. Tre'Quan Smith, PJ Williams, and Marcus Williams return to practice, and Kwon Alexander makes plays in drills. Since returning to the team, UDFA Lawrence Woods might feel he has something to prove, starting off strong in his return.

Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson is joined by John Sigler of USA Today's SaintsWire! John joins to talk about the New Orleans Saints roster cuts, on the bubble players, and newest addition in former first-round receiver Kevin White. The Saints are currently without a kicker, where might they find there next and will their next be who starts the regular season?

Then, Ross and John have some fun with Saints-themed overreactions. Marquez Callaway, Tony Jones, Jr., and Paulson Adebo have all drawn the eyes of adoration among Saints fans, but can they keep building the momentum?

The New Orleans Saints wasted no time getting their roster cut down to the league-required 85-man roster. The had reportedly already made all of their cuts before their Sunday practice including one surprise move the were forced to make, which re-opens another big hole at kicker.

Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill saw similar numbers of opportunities (passes thrown and snaps taken) on Saturday. That trend didn't change when personnel groupings are broken down. But with a look at Ian Book's personnel frequency shows exactly what the Saints wanted to use for their evaluation of the rookie QB.

WR turned TE Juwan Johnson put on an impressive show when he was the only tight end on the field, Marquez Callaway made the plays a #1 should make, and Tony Jones Jr. got a little help from his friends.

Updating a 53-man roster projection after the handful of roster cuts and Saturday's action gives way to Tony Jone Jr, Easop Winston, and Chase Hansen who all impressed. But the fate of Devonta Freeman and Latavius Murray may hang in the balance come the 53-man trim down.

On today's Locked On Saints, host Ross Jackson breaks down all 24 of Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston's combined passes as the New Orleans Saints squared off with the Baltimore Ravens to open up the 2021 NFL preseason.

Looking at accuracy, turnover-worth throws, running the Payton scheme, and much more to try to find a separation between these two quarterbacks. As the competition rolls along on Airline Drive, a winner is going to have to be selected, here's where we think they should go if the decision were made today.

Another look at the Saints defenders who stood out on Saturday. Marcus Davenport had a great game, why David Onyemata played on the edge so much, and other defensive standouts.

Players have already been cut by the Saints ahead of the first roster trim deadline on Tuesday. From 90 to 85, three cuts have already been reported.

The New Orleans Saints drop their first preseason game to the Baltimore Ravens 17-14 on the back of six turnovers. While the score doesn't mean much, the play of some of the young stars absolutely does.

Still not much separation between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill, though one led more successful drives. Ian Book struggles and the running back room is in for a busy Sunday night workout after committing three fumbles.

On the offensive side, WR Marques Callaway, RB Tony Jones Jr., TE Juwan Johnson, and offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz all stood out with successful days.

But it was perhaps Zack Baun who surprised the most with a remarkable first outing after finally having an offseason to work on his transition to off-ball linebacker. Along with Baun, the rest of the linebacker depth performed extremely well, David Onyemata put on a show, and rookie CB Paulson Adebo made an impact across several areas of the game.
