Alex Anthopoulos has always been very deliberate when it comes to the moves that he makes for the Atlanta Braves. Monday wasn’t any different as he traded for catcher Sean Murphy from the Oakland Athletics. It didn’t come without a cost because he traded away first-time all-star William Contreras. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about whether or not Anthopoulos gave up too much to bring in the former Gold Glove winner. Also, they discussed the Atlanta Hawks getting exposed last night against the Memphis Grizzlies and some Georgia Bulldogs racking up the postseason awards. The Atlanta Hawks won a thriller in overtime against the Chicago Bulls last night at State Farm Arena. Rookie A.J. Griffin hit an alley-oop layup at the buzzer to defeat the Bulls. This was after Trae Young hit, at the time, the game-winning jump shot at the end of regulation. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about Travis Schlenk’s eye for talent and they discussed Nate McMillan’s late game strategy in the win. Also, they discussed if it’s worth it for Dansby Swanson to stay in Atlanta. Secondly, the Atlanta Falcons have a new starting quarterback in Desmond Ridder. Arthur Smith has prepared Ridder for this moment, from what we have heard. All eyes will be on Ridder the rookies as they will face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. And with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers losing, there may be some added pressure for the rookie. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about how Smith will be able to put Ridder in a position to succeed. Lastly, the Cedar Grove Saints lost to the Sandy Creek Patriots 21-17 in the 3A Georgia State Championship. With Desmond Ridder as the starter for the Atlanta Falcons, it will be all hands on deck in New Orleans on Sunday. Arthur Smith has to make sure the game plan for Ridder is easy to manage. Terrell has dealt with injuries in 2022 for the Atlanta Falcons. Since Terrell has returned from injury, Dean Pees’ defense has played significantly better. Desmond Ridder SZN begins for the Atlanta Falcons this week as rookie quarterback will make his first ever NFL start in what amounts to an elimination game for the Falcons on Sunday in New Orleans. Despite all that being on the line, I still won't allow myself to have any expectations for Ridder. I still believe that looking at his ability to command the offense should be the only measuring stick on Sunday. Next, the Atlanta Hawks have begun life without Dejounte Murray and the defense appears to have suffered for it as they have given up at least 120 points in back-to-back games. This is something I will continue to watch as the games unfold without Murray in the lineup. Finally, Dansby Swanson got married over the weekend and maybe that's the reason that we haven't heard anything about him signing a deal. But the longer he's out, the odds of him coming back feel less and less. Also, Mark ZInno handed out a Shovel of Wisdom.

Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about how Ridder could flourish with what Smith is trying to do. Lastly, Odell Beckham hasn’t made a decision about which NFL team he wants to play for. Beckham made a comment about potentially signing somewhere and not playing until the playoffs start. Jarvis and Tenitra talked about those comments and they discussed the parallel between OBJ and Trae Young.

The Atlanta Falcons officially make the move to Desmond Ridder and while fans expectations may be high, they need to just dial it back a little bit and just take each game as it's own sample and not try to extrapolate what the rest of his career or the next three to four seasons will be like for Ridder. Next, the Atlanta Hawks are in a very interesting spot. With Dejounte Murray out for the next two weeks, I expect Trae Young to revert back to "old Trae Young" both on offense and on defense. That's both good and bad for the Hawks. Finally, when you look at what the shortstop market is telling us right now, the fact that the Braves are haggling on giving Dansby Swanson a 6th year feels a little bit like they are repeating the same mistake they made with Freddie Freeman.
