Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

Today we're joined by Dallas Stars Senior Staff Writer Mike Heika. Dane and Mike discuss all the changes that have occurred within the Dallas Stars organization this summer. What should we expect with Pete DeBoer as head coach that we didn't see with Rick Bowness? How can Miro Heiskanen continue to grow and improve? How will the second, third and fourth line shape out with the amount of NHL-capable forwards the Stars have in their arsenal? Can we expect Wyatt Johnston, Mavrik Bourque & Logan Stankoven to potentially make the NHL roster?

Today we discuss one of the more polarizing Dallas Stars players. Ryan Suter was acquired through free agency in the 2021 offseason and many wondered what he could bring to the table in his late thirties. What was the upside to having Suter on the roster? Where was he most effective? Where did he struggle? Can we see different version of Suter under Pete DeBoer, or have we already seen all he can offer the Stars? How much play time should he expect in 2022-2023? Should he be paired Miro Heiskanen or should he be paired with a new partner?

Today we talk about Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger and which of those three could win a major NHL award for the Dallas Stars. What will Jason Robertson look like in Pete DeBoer's system? Will it be enough to lead him to winning the Hart trophy? What will it take for Miro Heiskanen to improve his offensive numbers? How can he keep up with Cale Makar and Roman Josi in a race for the Norris trophy? Does Jake Oettinger have everything he needs to win a Vezina trophy? Will he build off his playoff performance or will he crack under the pressure?

Today we ask the question, "what if?" What if the Dallas Stars had defeated the St. Louis Blues in round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs and went on to win the Stanley Cup? Could the Stars had actually taken down the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins? What moves would the Stars have made in the 2019 offseason? What would the Stars look like today in 2022 with a (at least) second Stanley Cup under their belt? We tackle all of those questions on today's episode!

The 2022 World Juniors are finally here, and there are a few Dallas Stars prospects suiting up to try and bring the gold back to their home contries. Team Sweden will have Daniel Lungman and Albert Sjoberg at their services while team Canada will have Logan Stankoven to use along with plenty of other young future NHL superstars. Unfortunately, we will not be seeing 2022 18th overall pick Liam Bichsel play for team Switzerland. Who are the favorites in the tournament? Which players need to have the best showing?

Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger are considered by many to be cornerstone pieces of the Dallas Stars franchise, yet neither of them (both RFAs) have signed new deals with the team this summer. Why is this? Should Stars fans be worried? Can we expect Otter to be the same player under Pete DeBoer as he was under Rick Bowness? What kind of season should we expect with John Klingberg off the team? In what ways does Miro Heiskanen need to step up? What will the lasting effects of Michael Raffl's absence be for the Dallas Stars?

Former Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg was recently signed by the Anaheim Ducks to a 1-year $7 million deal. Today we chat with JD Hernandez of Locked on Ducks to discuss the implications of the signing. Can Klingberg come in and provide some much needed veteran leadership? Can he help with the development of a guy like Jamie Drysdale? We also talk about what Klingberg's absence means for the Stars. There is also some spontaneous discussion over Tom Hodges and his EBUG appearance in the Stars-Ducks season finale.

At the end of last week, the Dallas Stars were at the center of some spicy NHL trade rumors. There was speculation that three-time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Cane could be on the move and Dallas might be his preferred destination. While these rumors seem to have died down, it doesn’t hurt to speculate. Would Kane actually want to leave the team that drafted him? Would Dallas actually want to pursue a player like Kane? What would the Stars have to give up in return for his services? We talk about it all on today's episode!

Today, we tackle your Dallas Stars hot takes. Can Stars veteran Tyler Seguin have a huge season and score like he used to back in the early 2010s? What is a realistic number for him? Will a new head coach benefit him as he seeks to prove he is still a threat to the NHL? How realistic is the possibility of Wyatt Johnston making the NHL roster and making an immediate impact? How well will his game translate from the OHL to NHL? Can Thomas Harley embrace his role in the defensive rotation and help boost the Stars offensive numbers?

The NHL season may seem far away, but that doesn't mean we can't start our predictions. Today we discuss the WAY too early 2022-2023 NHL central division standings. Will the Colorado Avalanche repeat as division champs? Where will everyone else fall? Can St. Louis, Dallas, Minnesota and Nashville all make it back to the playoffs? Which of those teams will be able to take that next step? What should we expect from the Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes? We talk about all eight teams on today's show.
