Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

NHL free agency is almost here, and the Dallas Stars seem to be shopping for a new top-six forward to help provide some secondary scoring. Today, we talk about Dylan Strome and Sonny Milano (both UFAs) and how they could help the Dallas Stars on their second line. Strome was a lottery pick back in 2015 and has yet to fully live up to his potential. Could a change of scenery help him take his game to the next level? Milano had a great season in Anaheim playing alongside Trevor Zegras. Could he have a similar play-making effect playing with Tyler Seguin? We also talk about everything the Stars need to do within their own organization. They need to re-sign Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger, as well as some other key skaters.

Last week, the NHL released the season schedule for all 32 teams. The Dallas Stars have a pretty intriguing 82 journey before them. They have a six-game road trip in the middle of the season against some stiff competition, but they also have a home stand that will last for eight straight games. What will be the most important stretch of the season? How many games will they play against other central division teams? We also talk about the BUSY week ahead for the league as development camps will begin fir several teams. Free agency will also open up on Wednesday, and we should start to get a clearer picture of what the Stars roster will look like for the upcoming season.

The 1st round of the 2022 NHL Draft is over. The Dallas Stars made a very logical, and high quality pick at 18th overall with defenseman Lian Brichsel is a massive player (6'5" 225lbs) with a ton of defensive upside. Today we discuss why he will be a great addition to the Dallas Stars roster in a few seasons. We also talk about one of his current NHL comparisons and why Stars fans should be excited to have him in the organization. We also recap the chaos of the first five picks of the draft as well as a few other names to watch out for on day two of the NHL Draft.

The 2022 NHL Draft is finally here. Today we'll take a look at three forwards that the Dallas Stars could select if they are available at pick 18. Brad Lambert is one of the best skaters in the draft with excellent puck-handling skills, but could his overall consistency hold him back from being a top-six NHL talent? Rutger McGroarty has a very heavy and accurate shot, and has very few red flags on his scouting report. Will he be available when the Stars pick or will another team snag him first? Jonathan Lekkerimäki is far and away the best Swedish player in the entire draft. His scoring ability is enough to make any team fall in love with him as a prospect. Could he help solve Dallas' depth issue at right wing?

The 2022 NHL Draft is upon us, and it's time to start speculating about who the Dallas Stars will select in Montreal. Today, we examine three defensemen who could be the newest additions to the Texas hockey family. Lian Bichsel is a massive player with a ton defensive upside. Could he step in as a younger Jani Hakanpaa? Owen Pickering is a skilled d-man who can move the puck with a lot of efficiency. Could help improve the Stars game in the neutral zone? Lane Hutson is one of the smallest players in the draft, but he may also be one of the hardest workers. Could he be a great fit for the organization and be a mid-round steal for Dallas?

Pete DeBoer has added to his coaching staff. Steve Spott and Alain Nasreddine have been named as assistant coaches for the Dallas Stars. Spott has worked with DeBoer in San Jose and Las Vegas. Nasreddine has spent the last seven seasons in New Jersey with the Devils. We take a deep look at some numbers from their previous seasons and determine how effective they can be in Texas with a new team. We also discuss the hirings of two former Dallas Stars coaches. Rick Bowness will be the new leader of the Winnipeg Jets and Jim Montgomery will be behind the bench in Boston with the Bruins.

Today Sam Nestler joins the pod to talk about a plethora of Dallas Stars happenings. Goalie Scott Wedgewood has signed a two-year extension with the Stars worth $2 million. Wedgewood came in at the trade deadline to backup Jake Oettinger and it appears that will be the case for the next couple of seasons. We also discuss which Stars free agents will leave and which ones will stay. We also fantasize about potential additions to the roster that could make the Stars better. To close, we talk about the NHL draft and how the Dallas Stars should approach it.

We have been without NHL Hockey since Sunday. To get our spirits high while we wait for the NHL draft, we take a look back at the best games from the 2021-2022 regular season. Re-live some of the most electric moments from the year like the intense back-and-forth games between the Stars and Winnipeg Jets. Dallas also played a massive game against the Vegas Golden Knights in April when both teams were fighting for their playoff lives. The Stars also took part in one of the best NHL games of the entire season in early January when the Florida Panthers came to town.

Logan Stankoven has been announced as the winner of the David Branch Player of the Year Award which is awarded to the CHL's most outstanding player. Stankoven played his most recent season with the Kamloops Blazers with a chip on his shoulder. He believed he should have been taken in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft, so he came out motivated. He and Wyatt Johnston will be looking to make the NHL roster this summer at Dallas Stars training camp. Could it be possible that they are the next great Dallas Stars forward duo? We also discuss the recent signing of defenseman Joseph Cecconi to a one-year two-way contract.

The Dallas Stars are due for some change this offseason, but it's as good as time as any to predict what the opening night line up could look like for the gang in green. Today we take a look at all four forward lines, three defensive parings and both goalies. The top line is all but set, but there is plenty of kinks to be sorted out everywhere else.
