Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

The 2021-2022 NHL season has concluded and the Colorado Avalanche are Stanley Cup champions. While the Finals between the Lighting and Avalanche made for a fantastic viewing process, there were also plenty of lessons to be learned for the Dallas Stars. Both teams displayed some great attributes that the Stars should look to replicate in the coming seasons. The Avalanche stuck with their core players through thick and thin, and worked their way to the top. The Lightning showed us that solid goaltending can carry you a long way. What other lessons can be gathered from the Finals?

Today we cover YOUR Dallas Stars questions from Twitter. We start off by talking about when Jason Robertson will sign a new contract with the team. We also discuss the idea of John Klingberg potentially resigning with the team because he could find success under Pete DeBoer’s system. We also dive into what Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn’s roles could be with the new coaching staff in place. Last, we take a guess at when Wyatt Johnston and Mavrik Bourque could make their Dallas Stars Debuts.

Pete DeBoer was introduced by Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill as the new head coach of the Dallas Stars on Wednesday morning. DeBoer addressed the media afterwards, explaining his motivations for coming to Dallas and his vision for building a Stanley Cup contender. We break down some of his best comments and take a deep dive into why Stars fans should be excited to have him leading this group of men. How big of a role did Joe Pavelski play in DeBoer's hiring? What are the biggest points of emphasis for DeBoer this offseason? What was his number reason for choosing Dallas over other NHL destinations?

The Dallas Stars announced on Tuesday afternoon that Pete DeBoer had been named the 25th Head Coach of the Dallas Stars franchise. Today, Chris Gawlik of the Locked on Golden Knights podcast joins the show to talk about DeBoer’s tenure in Las Vegas. What was the reaction from the city when he was fired from the team? Was the Robin Lehner situation really as bad as people made it seem? What are the reasons to be excited with DeBoer as head coach?

The Dallas Stars seem to have found their guy. Former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Pete DeBoer is set to the next head coach of the Dallas Stars (per Elliotte Friedman on Twitter). Today we discuss why this is a very safe and underwhelming hire. DeBoer brings tons of NHL experience to the table, but he is known recently for struggles in the playoffs and for having a rocky relationship with some VGK players. Will these issues persist in Dallas? Will DeBoer be able to take the Stars to the next level and have them compete for a Stanley Cup soon?

Today, Dane is joined by a very special guest. Jonathon Shipman (AKA Shippy) is the in-house DJ for Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center. On today’s episode we talk about Shippy’s journey to working for the Stars. We dive deep into his love for sports, and discuss the fact that Dallas is slowly becoming a hockey town. There’s also plenty of music chatter as Dane and Shippy talk about the best sing-a-long songs at Stars games.

On today's mailbag episode, we talk about the success of former Dallas Star Valeri Nichushkin in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Colorado Avalanche. Should we be happy for him having a great run with a division rival after failing to take off as a star player in Dallas? Is Scott Wedgewood a good option as second string goalie for the Stars going forward? Which Stars prospects are ready to make the jump and debut in the NHL in 2022-2023?

Today we explore another potential trade acquisition for the Dallas Stars by visiting the Bay Area to talk about defenseman Brent Burns. JD Young (host of Locked on SJ Sharks) joins the show to discuss what a Burns trade to Dallas could look like. Is Burns still capable of producing at a high level despite being 37 years old? Would he be a good fit in the Dallas Stars locker room? Could he be a good replacement for John Klingberg if he departs in the offseason? What would a trade package need to look like for Burns to come to Texas?

The free agent class for the incoming NHL offseason is loaded with talent. There are plenty of big names like Malkin, Gaudreau and Forsberg, but there are also plenty of lesser-known players that could add some depth to the Dallas Stars and help take the roster to the next level. Today we talk about what it would look like for Rickard Rakell, Frank Vatrano and Ben Chiarot to join the Dallas Stars. All of these guys would be relatively cheap pick-ups and have plenty to offer to any NHL team. What would be benefits of adding these players? Where could they fit on the Stars roster? Are there any red flags for any of these players that could prevent them from coming to Dallas?
