Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

It's finally here. After weeks of wondering whether the first round of the playoffs would feature a classic Suns-Lakers clash, we got our answer on Wednesday night as a LeBron James dagger took down Golden State, 103-100. The game showed us that James and Anthony Davis still aren't at the peak of their powers, while the Lakers' rotation is still in flux. But what else did we see, and should the Suns really be scared of the Lakers' size? More preview content to come throughout the week, but today it's time to open the notebook and ask a few other early questions, such as whether Andrew Wiggins gave us the blueprint for how Mikal Bridges can slow LeBron down, and whether the Suns can beat L.A.'s defense with ball and player movement like the Warriors did.

Trevor Booth of Bright Side of the Sun joins the show to give the latest on the Suns heading into Game 1 on Sunday. We don't know who the Suns' first-round opponent will be in the Western Conference yet, but we do know this week gives the Suns a chance to get healthy and put together a gameplan. How will Monty Williams deploy his frontcourt players, and would the Suns automatically have to go big if they play the Lakers? What can Cam Johnson add to the rotation, and will Mikal Bridges be able to step up offensively? And finally, will Devin Booker need to expand up his three-point volume in the postseason?

Gina Mizell of Suns.com joins the show to count down the most memorable moments from a storybook 2020-21 season for the Phoenix Suns. We look back on huge wins over Milwaukee and Utah, inflection points like the win over Oklahoma City, dual All-Star berths, as well as personnel decisions including the decision to bring back Frank Kaminsky. There's also important mile markers like the Suns clinching the playoffs with a win over the Clippers as well as Chris Paul traipsing up the record book with career assists. What will be No. 1? Plus to close the show, we quickly make the case for Monty Williams as NBA Coach of the Year.

Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun and Zona Hoops joins the show as he does every Monday to react to the finish of the Suns' first playoff season in 11 years. We give this team their flowers, look back on preseason expectations, and relish in how special the season has been. Then we give our quick thoughts on the Lakers-Warriors play-in game, what a first round series with LA would look like, and sift through the full West bracket, including Denver jumping to No. 3. We close by discussing what we are most looking forward to about the playoffs, including the chance for 10,000 or more Suns fans to experience the playoffs in-person in downtown Phoenix.

When you thought we'd seen every kind of win from these Suns, they surprise again, coming from behind in the final moments to beat the Trail Blazers, 118-117, and again come within one game of the top seed in the Western Conference. We go inside the numbers and strategy behind Cam Payne's growing role, discuss the state of the Suns' center rotation, and check in how the Suns are handling switching defenses as we heard toward the postseason. To close, an update on the West standings and what games to pay attention to across the NBA this weekend.

Mike Prada of the Limited Upside podcast and Prada's Pictures newsletter joins the show to give an Xs and Os look at how the Suns match up with the other top teams in the Western Conference. How does the Suns' brand of physicality compare with the Lakers? Will the Suns be able to solve the Clippers' switching? And can Devin Booker put together a more diverse shot chart come playoff time, including more pull-up threes, or will he be outmatched by someone like Donovan Mitchell who is more proven in the postseason? Oh and also: lots of Deandre Ayton talk.

After a 122-116 Suns loss to the Golden State Warriors, it's time to take our words of wisdom directly from the superstar Devin Booker himself. He's not worried, so let's take a look at why - and how the Suns can score better when he's dealing with "junk" defenses. Aside from the junk, we also saw Jae Crowder return to the starting lineup and Dario Saric log a DNP-CD. Is this going to be the playoff rotation? Not so fast. And to finish, a quick update on the Western Conference playoff standings and what games to pay attention to on Wednesday night.

Wes Goldberg of the Mercury News and Locked On Warriors joins the show to preview Tuesday night's Suns-Warriors matchup, discuss Steph Curry's magical season, debate whether Chris Paul could join Curry on the All-NBA First Team, and give a dispatch on Kelly Oubre Jr.'s season in Golden State. To close the show, we discuss why the Warriors should not scare Suns fans as a first-round opponent and whether Golden State could even win its way out of the play-in tournament.

After a difficult loss to the Lakers led by Anthony Davis (and LOTS of free throws) Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun joins the show as he does every Monday to break down the Suns' defense, how Devin Booker can outplay aggressive defense, and who the Suns can rely on as a consistent third scorer. We also take your questions on the Lakers game, the Western Conference playoff picture, and more. And then we answer the question of what we want to see out of the Suns in their final four regular season games this week.

It's time to get serious about the playoffs. Greg Esposito, aka Espo, of the Suns Solar Panel podcast joins the show to rate all the key Phoenix Suns players on a scale of 1-10 based on how confident we are in them heading into the postseason. Is Deandre Ayton consistent enough? What will Devin Booker's first playoff run look like? And is anyone on the Suns' bench besides Cam Payne going to get it together in time for the playoffs? We close the show by answering your questions, including whether Espo will get a tattoo if the Suns win the title and whether Book and CP3 are the best Suns backcourt ever.
