Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

Everyone wants this Cinderella Suns team to stay together, so it's time for a dive into the mailbag to imagine what new contracts could look like for Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges over the next couple seasons so the Suns can continue to compete for titles going forward. Then, a wonderful closing segment featuring Katherine Fitzgerald of The Arizona Republic, who was at the airport on Sunday night reporting on the Suns' arrival in Phoenix and gives a dispatch from the scene, replete with stories of chugging, excited children, and black market Valley memorabilia.

Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun and Zona Hoops joins the show as he does every Monday to talk SUNS IN FOUR. We discuss the flagrant foul and ejection called on Nikola Jokic that ended Denver's season, Chris Paul coming alive in Games 3 and 4, what this year's run could mean for CP3 and his legacy, and whether this Suns team is better offensively or defensively right now. To close, we discuss who Suns fans should be rooting for between the Jazz and the Clippers, and why the conference finals will be a bigger two-way test for the Suns than anything they've faced yet this postseason.

Jackson Frank of Dime Mag and The Analyst joins the show to break down the Suns' strategy against Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. and how Phoenix broke down Denver's weaknesses over and over throughout Games 1 and 2. Could adding size to the starting lineup help (hello, Will Barton), or are the Nuggets basically toast in this series? And if that's the case, should Suns fans be rooting for a small-ball battle with the Clippers or a duel between young 2-guards by facing Utah? The series may be over the next time Locked On Suns comes your way, so we cover a lot of ground in this one.

Coming to you fresh off a 123-98 win by the Suns over Denver in Game 2 of the second round, it's hard to feel anything but optimistic. It's time to start thinking big picture about the greatness of this team and how far it can go, especially after a vintage Chris Paul performance with 15 assists and zero turnovers. Also, after another somewhat quiet night from Nikola Jokic, a look at why Denver's offense has been so quiet and why Jokic isn't being as aggressive as we're used to. Could more Will Barton help, or is it just about hoping shots go in?

Michael Pina of Sports Illustrated joins the show to break down Game 1 of the Suns-Nuggets series and get you ready for Game 2. We discuss how Deandre Ayton was able to win the center matchup, why the Suns generated so many open threes, and how Denver can bounce back. That could mean a lot more Aaron Gordon both in the post and in a two-man game with Nikola Jokic, as well as likely a better night from the Nuggets' bench. We also talk about how demoralizing Jokic can be, why the Nuggets are unlikely to start Monte Morris, and how Denver can improve its defense.

These Suns continue to play dominant basketball, and their latest victim was an ailing Denver team, as the Suns took Game 1, 122-105. While it's true that the Nuggets' backcourt missed its 3s and Nikola Jokic didn't get his typical whistle, the Suns just flat out played better than Denver in this game. They successfully defended Jokic and the Nuggets' offense and won the bench minutes, then as a cherry on top got a massive boost from Chris Paul and Mikal Bridges. If the Suns get everything they got against the Lakers plus a nice dose of Paul and Bridges, it's going to be a long series for Denver. There's a lot of positive vibes coming off this one.

It's time for Round 2 against The Joker and his Denver Nuggets. To preview the series and discuss what to watch for in Game 1, Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun and Zona Hoops joins the show as he does every Monday. We look at how Deandre Ayton could continue to score in the pick and roll against Denver's back line, the enormous defensive challenge ahead for Ayton, who defends Devin Booker (plus who starts at guard for the Nuggets) and more. But first, we quickly sift through the wreckage of the Western Conference and how wide open a path to the Finals it truly is this season. The Suns could be there if they keep playing this well.

They did it! After the lottery years, the Devin Booker slander, everything, the Suns took down the Lakers in six games, handing LeBron James his first-ever first round defeat with a 113-100 Game 6 win. Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun and Zona Hoops joins the show to celebrate it all. We get into Booker's massive game, the Lakers' recklessness playing Anthony Davis, the savvy of Chris Paul, and the magnificent chaos and trolling of Jae Crowder. Onto Denver.

The biggest game of the Suns' season is here. Will this group dig deep and take down LeBron James in the first round for the first time in his career, or are we coming back to the Valley for Game 7? Christian Rivas of Silver Screen and Roll joins the show to give us the latest on Anthony Davis and KCP heading into Thursday night, explain his best-case scenario for the Lakers, and discuss whether this is the beginning of a different phase for LeBron, just the injuries flaring up at the wrong time, or whether he was just holding back and is about to unleash to close out the series. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

One win away. Despite another scary tumble from Chris Paul and a shaky start to the game, the Suns dominated Game 5 in convincing fashion, winning 115-85 behind 30 points from Devin Booker, stellar defense, and another huge Cameron Payne game. Listen for Book's mentality heading into Game 6 on the road, the latest on Paul's injury, and what final adjustments we could see from the Lakers as they search for one last gasp to avoid the first first-round playoff loss of LeBron James' entire career.
