Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

We recap the second night of the Suns’ road back-to-back, which featured another wild game in which Phoenix came out on top. The Suns beat the Pelicans, 139-132, behind a season-high 44 points from Devin Booker.

As always, we bring you the highs and lows, including a breakdown of Booker’s sensational scoring night and why the Suns were unable to take advantage when New Orleans went small.

We close the show with a closer look at the rebounding battle, Ricky Rubio’s passing efficiency, and how the Suns took ONE-HUNDRED AND SEVEN shots!

That was another rough outing for the Phoenix Suns, as they fell in Orlando on Wednesday 128-114. Thanks to porous defense, which helped Aaron Gordon and Mo Bamba dominate, Phoenix didn’t stand much of a chance in the second half.

Frank Kaminsky led the Suns in scoring, but his defense did no favors either. Small mistakes like Mikal Bridges fouling jump-shooters hurt the Suns as well.

For many Suns fans, this will be a game to forget. However, the regression to the mean is really hitting this team hard right now, meaning things could get better again soon.

Against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night, Ty Jerome was playing in Tyler Johnson’s rotation spot. Meanwhile, Johnson was a DNP-CD. Is this a sign of what’s to come with Johnson?

If so, it’s time to start exploring realistic options for the Suns using his bloated expiring contract.

If the Suns believe trading him is the best decision for the future of the franchise, Johnson’s $19.25 million can be used in many different ways.

We explore who around the Association the Suns should consider trading Johnson for.

What a crazy game that was.

After leading by 20 points at halftime, the Suns were trailing late against the Hornets before Kelly Oubre Jr. took the game over himself. Turning what would’ve been a crushing loss into a win could be exactly what this team needed moving forward.

Outside of Oubre, who stood out the most? The point guard duo of Ricky Rubio and Ty Jerome looked great combining for 17 assists and 0 turnovers, while an aggressive version of Mikal Bridges was a pleasant surprise.

We go over the biggest positives and negatives from the contest and we also break down the Suns’ stellar assist to turnover ratio as we analyze the game from every angle.

Remember how confusing the 2019 draft was for the Phoenix Suns? Well, those old takes now look silly as the Suns have been helped tremendously by Cameron Johnson, who ranks No. 6 in win shares among rookies.

We discuss Johnson in relation to the 2019 draft class as a whole and how this class could influence future drafts. Will teams begin to go more towards experience over potential now with the recent success of Johnson, Brandon Clarke, and PJ Washington?

Before we dive deep into this, we go over the Suns’ latest injury report. Who will be available for the beginning of an important road trip?

The hot start to the season for the Phoenix Suns is starting to fade into the distance. Early season momentum has vanished, so what’s going wrong? We went over exactly that for their outings against the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks earlier this week.

Losing to Washington, especially on the second night of their back-to-back was inexcusable, but Luka Doncic was unstoppable for Dallas on Friday night. How will Phoenix regain their winning ways?

Entering an important road trip, it’s time for the Suns to prove whether they are truly for real or not.

Before Deandre Ayton returns Dec. 17 from his suspension, the Phoenix Suns have an important stretch of games looming to stay in the top eight. How do we see these games going for Phoenix?

In the Western Conference, Dallas and Phoenix have been the two teams overachieving above their preseason expectations. We break down what it will take for the Suns to continue playing well, including several matchups before Ayton’s return against top West teams.

Finally, we close with our most intriguing numbers from the past couple weeks.

Ty Jerome is almost ready to make his official NBA regular season debut following an ankle sprain. What type of impact will Jerome have on this roster?

Arizona Sports’ Kevin Zimmerman joined the show to discuss Jerome, Kelly Oubre Jr., and the 2018 draft.

Speaking of Oubre, is this more efficient version sustainable? Through a 500-minute sample size, it sure does. We break down how he's taking better shots and being aggressive for free throw opportunities.

Finally, we close the show discussing the 2018 draft. Luka Doncic is averaging 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists right now as a legit MVP candidate. Deandre Ayton will always be linked to Doncic, but this doesn’t mean Ayton's upside isn’t superstar-worthy either.

We reconvene following the completion of a hellish week for the Suns, playing five games in seven nights and losing four of them. The injuries to Ricky Rubio and Aron Baynes are hurting the Suns even as the schedule eases up.

We stick to our usual recap format but look at both games together, digging into how the bench duo of Elie Okobo and Cheick Diallo is playing so well and why players like Frank Kaminsky and Tyler Johnson continue to struggle (easier said than done to explain that!)

We close the show by highlighting the Suns’ atrocious rebounding against the Nuggets and the magic of Devin Booker despite icky offense in Minnesota.

Brendon goes solo after another low-energy game from the Suns without their veteran leaders, Ricky Rubio and Aron Baynes.

Highlights from the close contest include Elie Okobo stepping into the backup point guard role and playing well and Kelly Oubre Jr. looking increasingly comfortable as a legitimate secondary play-maker.

But why does Tyler Johnson not look like himself, and is there any way to get him out of it?

Finally, how the Suns nearly overcame a hot shooting night by the Pelicans by going small but were ultimately unable to stop Brandon Ingram.
