Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans had multiple finalists for their head coaching be reported, but the reality is, most of the names we heard are never getting hired and in fact, they seem to be using the Titans to get a contract from the team they actually want. That means either Mike Borgonzi is getting played by their agents, or the Titans are playing their fan base and intended on hiring Matt Nagy all along. Speaking of Nagy, his candidacy, continues to improve by the day simply through a reduction of available finalist. Nagy would be a disaster hire and showcase the Titans have never truly gotten out of the "buddy hire" mentality that got them in this spot in the first place. Mike McCarthy also had an extensive visit with the Titans over the weekend, but now the Titans have competition for him as well with the Pittsburgh Steelers jumping in the pit. Finally, the Titans have a virtual interview with Robert Saleh on Sunday and he represents one of the last remaining hopes for Titans fans to avoid Matt Nagy, along with Mike McDaniel, who seems far less likely.

The Tennessee Titans missed out on John Harbaugh as he went to the New York Giants, but this is no time for Titans fans to panic. Harbaugh was a good choice, but he isn't the ONLY choice and there are downsides to Harbaugh that Titans fans need to admit are real. Also, everyone is focused on the quarterback, but the reality is everything else the Giants brought to the table mattered more. With Harbaugh off the table though, the Titans need to quickly look elsewhere and Mike McCarthy, Kevin Stefanski and Robert Saleh are the best remaining coaches. All of them are scheduled or have completed an interview. This also gives us a window into the next round of the hiring cycle as the Titans finalist should be coming out by Monday and Tyler takes a crack at who he thinks makes the list. Finally, a lot of Titans fans are once again taking aim at owner Amy Adams Strunk and once again, the hate is misplaced. Losing out on Harbaugh cannot be blamed on ownership as she was prepared to do what it took to sign Harbaugh, is possible.

The Tennessee Titans were one of the three teams in the John Harbaugh Sweepstakes, but all the noise over the past 24 hours indicates that Harbaugh will be taking the job with the New York Giants. While that may be disappointing, Harbaugh was far from a perfect candidate and his interest continues to prove the Titans are one of the most desirable jobs in the NFL. The Titans had former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel in for an interview on Wednesday. This is significant news not only because it is another in-person session, but because it means the Titans have satisfied the Rooney Rule and can legally hire a coach, even if we shouldn't expect it soon. Finally, the Tennessee Titans cannot afford to trade for a head coach whether that be Mike Tomlin, or more appropriately, Matt Lafleur. They simply don't have the resources to spend prime draft capital on a coach with so many available.

Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the NFL over the last 20 years and while the Tennessee Titans might jump at the opportunity to hire him, the reality of the situation is Tomlin is not an option for the Titans or anyone else. They may sound like bad news, but this Steeler opening is not as good as the Titans and it should not impact the Titans ability to get the best candidate. The Titans are now up to 19 candidates in their coaching search and not all of them would have been seriously considered as head coach options, which makes you wonder who among the names would actually make sense as a coordinator. Kliff Kingsbury and Mike McDaniel would be the best options on the offensive side of the ball, but on defense, Raheem Morris and Johnathan Gannon also have a great resume.

The Titans are reportedly in the mix for former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, but the price tag could be steep: complete roster control. We debate whether Tennessee should pay the king's ransom, plus break down the worst and dark-horse candidates of this coaching cycle.

The Tennessee Titans are now into Week 2 of their head coaching search and John Harbaugh remains the best candidate on the market. The only issue is, as more information comes it seems the Titans aren't one of the top two picks for Harbaugh and some historic factors make it less likely he picks Tennessee. That makes Kevin Stefanski, Mike McCarthy and Robert Saleh the next best. If the Titans can't pick from the top tier, looking at options like Chris Shula, Jeff Hafley and Mike McDaniel becomes the next step and while McDaniel leaves a lot to be desired, he certainly isn't the worst they could do. There are plenty of worse options available like Matt Nagy, Arthur Smith and the worst of them all, Lou Anarumo.

The Tennessee Titans had Matt LaFleur in Nashville when he was the offensive coordinator for the 2018 team and if the Green Bay Packers let him go, the Titans need to pounce and bring him back home. LaFleur immediately becomes the top candidate on the market with a bullet. John Harbaugh is the second-best candidate and while he has reported real interest in the Titans, Tyler thinks he is using the Titans to get more out of a more desired spot like the New York Giants. The Titans added a bunch of new interviews over the weekend with some great names like Mike McCarthy, Mike McDaniel and Kliff Kingsbury. This is an exciting next step after a concerning first week. Finally, the Titans completed seven interviews in Week 1 of the coaching search and none of the names outside of Kevin Stefanski make sense, but because of the current coaching landscape, Stefanski may be more likely than previously though. Also, Jeffery Simmons and Chimere Dike made the NFL's 1st team All-Pro list and Titans fans should be overjoyed to see it.

The Tennessee Titans coaching search is off to a ROUGH start. The candidate list so far is completely uninspiring or downright embarrassing. Mike McCarthy reportedly isn't interested in the job and has yet to be requested while the Titans look like fools for interviewing Jason Garrett on Friday. The Titans have still not requested Anthony Weaver or Klint Kubiak either and it is expected they are not a serious contender for John Harbaugh. All of this is not going in the right direction. The hope Titans fans should hold on to though is that a lot of the best young candidates are currently in the playoffs and the Titans, hopefully, are just waiting to speak with guys like Robert Saleh, Chris Shula and Jesse Minter. Finally, Amy Adams Strunk is far from the best owner in the NFL, but is far from the worst also. The Titans are in a down phase, but we all must remember she was also the one who pulled the franchise out of the rut they were in 12 years ago. She is responsible for the second-best Titans team in history, so pretending she is terrible at the job and can't get this back on track is absurd.

The Tennessee Titans begin their head coach interviews on Wednesday with two candidates that aren't that exciting, but it is exciting the Titans are starting their official process. Matt Nagy, Lou Anarumo and Vance Joseph get first crack. The Titans will conduct some in-person interviews as well with Kevin Stefanski and Raheem Morris, but they also need to make sure they get John Harbaugh, who was just fired by the Baltimore Ravens, requested as soon as possible. These interviews are critical for different reasons. Finally, Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi had a press conference on Tuesday and made the case the job opening is very attractive while also explaining what he is looking for and snitching on Cam Ward(LOL).
