Locked On Wolves - Daily Podcast On The Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves improved to 4-0 in the preseason with a blowout win over Maccabi Ra'Anana. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down the reserves-only performance, as Troy Brown Jr. and a host of non-rotation players led them to a victory. Josh Minott did what he needed to do to make the case for a spot in Chris Finch's rotation, and Luka Garza turned in a typically solid performance. Rookie Leonard Miller was also fantastic, and a few other non-roster camp invitees impressed in the battle for the final roster spots.

Karl-Anthony Towns had the most disappointing all-around season of his career last year for the Minnesota Timberwolves. But despite struggling early in the season and injuries limiting him to just 29 regular-season games overall, KAT actually shot the ball well after returning from the calf injury. Also, Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) explains the other areas in which the season wasn't a total loss for Towns, as well as what areas he needs to improve in to consider the 2023-24 season a success.

The Minnesota Timberwolves landed four players in ESPN's NBArank, their ranking of the top 100 players in the league. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) critiques the list, including which Wolves players ranked too high and who ranked too low. Also, a look at some of the other (read: more accurate) player rank lists. Rudy Gobert's first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves was, by almost any measure, something of a disappointment. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) dives into what was most frustrating, including the areas of Gobert's game in which he struggled more than he has in a half-decade. At the same time, there are reasons for optimism, from the weird roller coaster of the last 12 months finally (hopefully) stabilizing, to potential scheme tweaks from head coach Chris Finch.

The Minnesota Timberwolves landed a surprising win total projection from Kevin Pelton at ESPN. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) reacts, including why it makes sense that the model projected them to finish so high -- ahead of the defending champion Denver Nuggets -- in the Western Conference. Also, the Wolves swept the Dallas Mavericks in Abu Dhabi, winning on Saturday behind another strong performance from Karl-Anthony Towns and solid showings from Rudy Gobert and Anthony Edwards, with the latter making his preseason debut.
