  • 2.31 Why you cannot find happiness

How can we apply Sorien Kierkegaard’s three stages of life to our own? Why will we always fail to find happiness? Join Professor Sweis as he gives a Zoom online lecture on this topic on Jun 9, 2020, at 11:00 AM Central Time. The details are below.

    This is highly recommended.

    https://youtu.be/Yq-gDw9uWq4

Topic: The Three Stages of Life. In this lecture, Professor Sweis will cover Sorien Kierkegaard’s proposed life stages. He argues that the individual passed through three stages on the way to becoming a true self: the aesthetic, the ethical, and the spiritual.

Join us as we discuss how pursuing happiness does not make us happy! Join us as we discuss hedonism, naturalism, and narcissism.

Join us as professor Sweis will give evidence—following Kierkegaard’s logic for why living without the spiritual in your life will lead toward ultimate meaninglessness.

“If you’re looking for dry, academic balderdash then Dr. Khaldoun Sweis is clearly NOT the speaker for you! If, however, you are looking for someone to make philosophy fun, accessible and relevant, he’s your man. He is both erudite, entertaining, confident and congenial speaker who understands that philosophy is at the heart of the matter of every day living. Far from being with the dusty domain of scholars, philosophy never sounded so cool.”

—David DiCerto Director of Film, TV & Mission Outreach Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Center For Thought & Culture, NYC

“ I am pleased to recommend him as a speaker and scholar who communicates with insight, honesty … in the marketplace of ideas.”-Paul Copan, Professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University and holds the endowed Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics.

Time: Jun 9, 2020 11:00 AM Central Time (US and Canada)

“For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it.”― Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

In this podcast, I interview best-selling author, Dr. Hugh Ross, on the evidence for the historical Adam. • 2.29 Hell, the Soul, and Evil with Richard Swinburne

Why believe in hell? What about the soul? This week I interview the one and only Professor Richard Swinburne! He is one of the foremost philosophers of religion in the world and one of the most cited and researched scholars in the world. Swinburne is a Fellow of the British Academy and was Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion at the University of Oxford from 1985 until 2002. He is best known for his trilogy on the philosophy of theism (The Coherence of Theism, The Existence of God, and Faith and Reason). The central book of this trilogy, The Existence of God (2nd edition, 2004, Oxford University Press), claims that arguments from the existence of (1) laws of nature, (2) those laws being such as to lead to the evolution of human bodies, and (3) humans being conscious, make it probable that there is a God.

He has written a tetralogy on the meaning and justification of central Christian doctrines (including Providence and the Problem of Evil, Oxford University Press, 1998). He has written at various lengths on many of the other major issues of philosophy (including epistemology, the study of what makes a belief rational or justified, in his book Epistemic Justification); and he has applied his views about what is made probable by what evidence to the evidence about the Resurrection of Jesus in The Resurrection of God Incarnate. He is also well known for his defense of ‘substance dualism’ (the view that humans consist of two parts–soul and body), especially in his book The Evolution of the Soul and most recently  Mind, Brain, and Free Will, Oxford University Press, 2013. Arabic and German editions, forthcoming.

Finally, Professor Swinburne has a new book out, Are We Bodies or Souls?, (Oxford University Press, 2019). This is simpler but in some ways more fully developed version of the part of Mind, Brain, and Free Will which defends substance dualism.

This is an interview with Apologist Sam Shamoun who does an analysis of John 6:16-21. In this interview, you will see the remarkable clarity and brilliance that the Gospel of John has to human life and how to navigate the storms of life. Jesus walks on the water in the storm, but he does not stop the storm right away…he lets it rage in the dark. Why does he do that?

  • 2.27 Kierkegaard’s Three Stages of Life: An Analysis

In this episode, I have a profound interaction on the three stages of life that Kierkegaard proposed: the Aesthetic, the Ethical, and Religious.

Joining me to discuss the Three Stages of life Dr and Professor J Aaron Simmons. Aaron is the author of many books including Kierkegaard’s God and the Good Life (Indiana UP, 2017)

I was at the funeral of a very dear man and friend three days ago. As we kept our “social distance,” we discussed life, and why even bother living when all we live for and work for or love will ultimately be lost. We all get into despair when we think about this too much. But to ignore it is to court a deeper sense of despair, the despair we don’t even know we are in. That is more dangerous for us.

Here is a paragraph that I found very profound from Kierkegaard:

“Whether you are man or woman, rich or poor, dependent or free, happy or unhappy; whether you bore in your elevation the splendour of the crown or in humble obscurity only the toil and heat of the day; whether your name will be remembered for as long as the world lasts, and so will have been remembered as long as it lasted, or you are without a name and run namelessly with the numberless multitude; whether the glory that surrounded you surpassed all human description, or the severest and most ignominious human judgment was passed on you — eternity asks you and every one of these millions of millions, just one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not, whether so in despair that you did not know that you were in despair, or in such a way that you bore this sickness concealed deep inside you as your gnawing secret, under your heart like the fruit of a sinful love, or in such a way that, a terror to others, you raged in despair. If then, if you have lived in despair, then whatever else you won or lost, for you everything is lost, eternity does not acknowledge you, it never knew you, or, still more dreadful, it knows you as you are known, it manacles you to yourself in despair!”

  • 2.26 The reason why we do not reach the next Generation : Interview with J. Warrer Wallace

This week I interview my friend and mentor Jim Warrer Wallace on real life methods we could use to reach the next generations. Jim wrote “So the Next Generation will know” with apologist Sean McDowell.

Jim is a cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an adjunct professor of apologetics at Biola University and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner was a conscientious and vocal atheist until the age of thirty-five, when he took a serious and expansive look at the evidence for the Christian Worldview and determined that Christianity was demonstrably true. After becoming a Christ follower in 1996, Jim continued to take an evidential approach to truth as he examined the Christian worldview. He eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

    J. Warner’s professional investigative work has received national recognition; his cases have been featured more than any other detective on NBC’s Dateline, and his work has also appeared on CourtTV and Fox News. He also appears on television as an investigative consultant (most recently on truTV) and had a role in God’s Not Dead 2, making the case for the historicity of Jesus. J. Warner was awarded the Police and Fire Medal of Valor “Sustained Superiority” Award for his continuing work on cold-case homicides, and the CopsWest Award after solving a 1979 murder. Relying on over two decades of investigative experience, J. Warner provides his readers and audiences with the tools they will need to investigate the claims of Christianity and make a convincing case for the truth of the Christian worldview.

  • 2.25 Science, Evolution and The Bible: With Dr. Hugh Ross

This week I interview Hugh Ross, PhD. Ross is an Astronomer and best-selling author who believes that the physical universe, the realm of nature, is the visible creation of God and gives a trustworthy revelation of God’s character and purpose. We discuss evolition, science, the bible and even the 7 days of creation! Properly understood, God’s Word (Scripture) and God’s world (nature), as two revelations (one verbal, one physical) from the same God, will never contradict each other. I would love your feedback on this interview.

  • 2.24 What Women want to say to men but can’t: With Denis Mcallister on #metoo, feminism, masculinity, manhood and womanhood

I was on my way out of my one of my best humanities classes (a requirement for my BA degree) when something happened to me I would never forget, all my life. It still shocks me even to this day.

Listen to the podcast to hear about it. This week, I move away from the normal vision of Logically Faithful and discuss masculinity with the one and only Denise C. McAllister. She is an amazing writer and coauthor of New York Times Bestseller Spygate and “What Men Want o Say to Women (But Can’t)” which is now available for preorders on Amazon and will be released in February.

She is a Christian (Anglican) who studied theology at Reformed Theological seminary in Orlando.

    Denis says that

“A “real man” was a man who used his strength to defend and cherish his family, community, and nation. The purpose of his sexual vitality was to bear children and connect with his wife, and his emotional quietude was to endure the hardships of caring for those under his charge without complaint. By controlling his emotions instead of spilling them for the world to see, those under his care were free to express theirs and find strength in him.” You can read the rest of her article here.

Her new book is coming out soon–reserve your copy

What do you think? Why are some men not behaving in a masculine way? What does that even mean today?

Here also is a great video I found that helps address this issue in under 5 minutes by Allie Stuckey the host of “Allie” on CRTV and the Podcast “Relatable”.
