Because Austen is so important to us we are taking our time with her for the next two weeks. This week we will be discussing her personal life and next week we will be looking more specifically at her different works. During this episode we will be discussing her through the lens of the lonely girl and whether or not we think she was one herself. This episode is great for Jane-ites and those who half watched an adaptation five years ago. Her life alone is worth discussing and we do hope you will join us.

Did the newest adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion leave us in agony or hope? The release of the 2022 Persuasion has set the Lonely Girls of the world abuzz and so we stayed up past our bedtime to watch the movie and then immediately record an episode. This isn't your regular Janeite rant. Rebecca was very adamant that it wouldn't turn in to that. So instead we talk about the other adaptations, what went wrong in this version, and what we actually enjoyed *gasp*. What did we get right? What did we get wrong? Idk.

Don’t read to much into this… but this week we’re talking about the 2009 ensemble rom-com(edy?) He’s Just Not That Into You. In this episode we discuss the death toll of the rom-com, how it stands up in 2022, and who are the loneliest girls in this ensemble film. Rebecca and Madelaine may even improvise an entire musical! It’s time to party because this week we’re talking about all around good time Barbara Milicent Roberts. How DARE you think we would talk about anything else. The female-gaze-pink-tulle haze of Barbie movies began when Madelaine and Rebecca were the perfect age. At every sleepover, car ride, or babysitting gig there was sure to be a VHS with Barbie being a princess, fairy or fairy princess and we think that’s AWESOME. Listen in to learn about why it’s important for your children to play with dolls, what we can learn from a Barbie parable, and (obviously) if Barbie is a true Lonely Girl.

This week we’re taking a road trip in our 1963 Chevy StepSide C-10 pickup truck to a place we like to call Forks. This is one of our LA episodes that came from Rebecca’s trip to see Madelaine in the big city. We were fresh from watching Catherine Hardwicke’s magnum opus and you will hear Rebecca’s effusive reaction to watching her new favorite movie for the first time. In this episode we discuss why it had a particularly strong impact on horny lonely girls raised in purity culture, why children who had to raise their parents are more likely to date vampires, and obviously who we think are the biggest lonely girls in the first installment. So put on your favorite fabric covered headband. Bite your lip. And start heavy mouth breathing.

Welcome all you Lonely Girls- to the premiere episode of The Lonely Girls Podcast. This author and playwright is most famous for her children's novels A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. After learning a bit about the life of our Patron Saint, we use these two works to establish and analyze what truly is a Lonely Girl (and what truly is not). Do lonely circumstances make a Lonely Girl? Does having a dead dad make you hotter and cooler? Will either of us be able to pronounce Frances Hodgson Burnett correctly even once?
