Long-Distance Foolery is on vacation y’all! That’s right, we’re coming to you all from sunny Sabi Sands Game Reserve right in Kruger National Park. Today’s guest is my amazing husband, Joe, who took a leap of faith with me and decided to venture out of our safe home sanctuary and brave this strange COVID world for a jaunt into the bush. In this episode, we talk all things safari including our favorite collective nouns for animals, which friend each of us would choose to save penguins in Antarctica, and our new love of an old past time called birding. It’s episode 13 y’all, my favorite number as it turns out, and I was so excited to have my même chose on, Emily Hooker! She was such a necessary bestie during my days in Burkina and has remained one of my most beloved friends ever since. Though she’s just about ready to burst and welcome in her new baby girl, Hooks still found time to gab with me about whether we’ve learned more about survival during our times in the Peace Corps or these dreaded Corona days, getting creative with 5 pounds of frozen corn, and how buying a new house isn’t as fun when you can’t invite anyone over to enjoy it with. She says this is the most she’s laughed in a while and I totes agree…take a seat and cackle along with us, won’t you?

Alright fools, get comfy and buckle up because this week’s episode is a long one! I was so excited to have my sister on the show because she’s just infinitely more interesting and creative than I am. We’ve obviously known each other for our whole lives, but as Kristin puts it, we’ve known each other for centuries. Having spent so many of our past lives together, the stories were bound to burst from the confines of a simple 60-minute window. We talk about some of our favorite past birthdays, the aerodynamics of a house on stilts, how a robot on Mars can remind us all how to be a little more human, and have a quick debate on what art actually is. In this episode of foolishness, I spend time catching up with my favorite Aussie and go to jam master, Lex Ruby-Howe! We’ve known each other going on 15 years now and she’s seen me go from faux-hawk to Bieber bangs to straight-up drag diva. She’s the best person to ask for advice and one of the most giving people around. We talked about many things including how it feels to have a brand new baby while the world is on fire, her secret hatred for an adorable animal that has inspired many a children’s cartoon, and we finally reveal the only two things she’s not good at. In today's episode, I'm catching up with my hilarious and wonderful friend, my own, personal Maya Rudolph, Marina Spencer! She was one of my closest friends during my two years of Peace Corps, spent some time as a kick-ass stand-up comedienne in Washington, D.C., and now is fighting the good fight as a public defender just outside of Portland. Marina and I get into how Portland has turned her into a witchy plant mom, reminisce about that one time we drank all day and possibly injured an innocent baby, and finally, how meeting rage with silence is the best approach to life.

She’s the girl in the room who everyone wants to be friends with, and I’m lucky enough to have somehow made the cut. We met at a pride party in 20-I can’t remember, but once that first sip of prideful punch hit our lips, we haven’t looked back. In this gab sash we got into Yannick’s hatred for virtual approximations of a community he misses so dearly, a hot cake that jumped decades and left us all confused, and of course, reminiscing about jolly rancher cocktails in a crowded hot tub…at my Aunt’s house.

On today’s dose of foolery, I’m checking-in with the Thelma to my Louise for gay clubs and crossfit boxes, Kellyn! We've been making silly clubs and groups to be a part of for more than fifteen years and she's always the co-chair of debauchery. When I'm not crying in the front row of one of her DC shows, I'm probably pouring out my heart and soul to her over roast pork and pineapple buns. In today's kiki, Kell and I discuss our fascination with a particular Netflix dating show, what kinds of aliens we'd want to be friends with, and some controversial opinions about one of Broadway's biggest classics. On today’s episode, I’m catching up with my ginger brother from another mother, Trevor! This prim and proper man has become one of my closest queens and we love to push each other to think more deeply and dance more queerly. We had so many laughs recording this gab session for y’all and we get into things like Trevor’s love for R&B divas, his new found urban biker life, and our mutual love for an ex-tween heartthrob who has secretly become the zaddy we all didn’t know we needed. I’m glad to know she’s thriving, even though she took this call from the closet.
