In this episode of LONGLINE we sit down with Alice Spring’s based care worker and South Sudanese popstar, Nyapal Lul. Nyapal’s remarkable story involves fleeing South Sudan at the height of her music carer after one of her songs, critical of the South Sudanese Government and the civil war, puts her life in danger. Fearing for her life, Nyapal seeks asylum in Australia and is forced to leave her children behind in South Sudan. Granted a protection visa and missing her children and extended family, Nyapal bides her time until they can be reunited. During this time, she starts from the bottom in the Australian music industry and works in childcare - while simultaneously being heartsick for her own children.
Thank you to Nyapal Lul for sharing her story with the LONGLINE team.
