  • Crowdfunding’s Reg CF: An Investment Opportunity for “Regular Folks"; A Fundraising One for Startups”

    Hi everybody.

Are you a start-up business looking to raise funds? Or maybe you’re looking to work with-- or for-- such a business? Then again, maybe you’re just looking to invest a small sum of money in a start-up? If so, then you'll enjoy listening to this episode of Looking Forward. On it, you'll hear what my guest expert, Kat Kuzmeskas, says about a relatively new way to do any of the things I just mentioned. It's called Regulation Crowd Funding, or "Reg CF" for short.

Among other things, Kat will talk about (1) crowdfunding, and how it's being used to raise funds for a whole variety of individuals, nonprofits, and businesses, (2) Reg CF, the relatively recent, crowdfunding-related regulations in the United States, which allow startup businesses to raise funds from "regular" investors, not necessarily high net-worth individuals, and (3) the opportunities that Reg CF offers not only to businesses, but to small investors all over the globe who want to participate in a startup's potential growth... and possibly gain an equity share down the road.

Kat will also speak about the job and freelancing opportunities that these Reg CF startups offer, and in true Looking Forward fashion, she'll offer some tips on how to capitalize on some of the opportunities she mentions.

Now a little more about Kat: Kat Kuzmeskas is the President of Tamarin and Shyro, two health care companies. She has dedicated her entrepreneurial career to making data more accessible in healthcare, especially for patients.

As a former hospital administrator at Yale New Haven Health, she was shocked to learn that it was easier to buy healthcare data than it was for patients and providers to access data for care. So, she wanted to tackle this issue.

Kat is also a Teach For America alum, having taught in under-served communities along the Texas-Mexico border.

    Hi everybody!

Do you think the fact that people are living longer is creating global opportunities? Well, you betcha! I forecasted this years ago in my book, "Successful Marketing to the 50+ Consumer" (Prentice-Hall).

As you'll hear from my guest expert, Abby Levy, of Primetime Partners, the fact that people are living longer is creating an "extended middle age" in which millions of people around the world are continuing to lead active, engaged lifestyles. And that is creating what is now being called the "longevity economy."

On this episode, Abby Levy will discuss such things as (1) what's sparked this increased interest in older people and a recognition of the longevity economy, (2) how different countries around the world vary in how they are addressing the increased number of older people in their societies, and (3) how she thinks the longevity economy will evolve over the next several years.

Most importantly, in true Looking Forward fashion, Abby will speak about the MANY opportunities she believes the longevity economy is and will offer, and she'll provide some tips on how you might capitalize on those.

  • Travel is Back: And So Are Lots of Opportunities for You!

    Hi everybody!

We’ve got another great episode here with Chris Elliott, travel industry columnist, author, and consumer advocate. As you may know, Chris is a Looking Forward "alum," having appeared on this podcast more than 2 years ago.

On this episode, Chris speaks about some of the many trends he's witnessed over the past two years in the travel industry. This includes how COVID has affected hotels, airlines, cruise ships, car rentals, and other forms of lodging (e.g., Airbnb and VRBO). As you'll learn, things are somewhat different between how some travel-related businesses in the U.S. have handled COVID vs. others outside of the U.S.

Chris also mentions some of the new companies and services that have emerged in the industry, especially those offering tech-related solutions. Lots of entrepreneurship going on! You'll definitely want to hear about the two start-up companies he mentions.

Of course, no Looking Forward episode would be the same without my guest expert discussing the opportunities that exist now and will emerge in the future vis-à-vis their area of expertise. Chris certainly offers plenty of those, along with some wise suggestions for how you might find a job, a career, a business, or an investment opportunity in the travel industry.

Oh, two other things Chris tells us that you just have to hear: One is two countries he thinks are beautiful and just waiting to be discovered by more of us. The other is where you can get some free information and assistance with your unresolved consumer problems using his super-helpful Elliott Advocacy service. (See below.) Hey, I've used it myself!

Now a little more about Chris. Christopher Elliott is an author, journalist and consumer advocate. He founded Elliott Advocacy, a nonprofit organization that helps solve consumer problems. He publishes Elliott Confidential, a travel newsletter, and the Elliott Report, a daily blog about customer service. If you need help with a consumer problem, you can reach him here or email him at [email protected] Chris is also the author of the book, "How to Be the World's Smartest Traveler (and Save Time, Money, and Hassle)."

  • Money Without a Country: An Opportunity for YOU?

    Hi everyone.

Are you looking for an investment during times of inflation? Are you interested in diversifying your investment portfolio? Or maybe you’re just looking for investment alternatives for when the stock or bond markets aren’t doing so well?

In any case, how much do YOU know about precious metals as an investment?  We’ll cover all of this and more on this episode, #108. of Looking Forward: Opportunities for Job, Career, Business and Investment Seekers.

My guest expert, Patrick Yip, will share his expertise on such things as: (1) what precious metals you might want to consider investing in, (2) why there’s been an upward global trend in the purchase of precious metals, (3) what makes precious metals a great investment opportunity for some people, and (4) a few of the ways you can invest in precious metals, should you decide to do so.  And, in true Looking Forward fashion, you’ll also hear tips on how to choose the right company to do business with when you make an investment in precious metals.

Patrick Yip is the Director of Business Development at APMEX and OneGold. APMEX is one of the largest retailers of physical gold, silver, platinum and palladium, and has sold over $15 billion in product over its 20+ year history. OneGold is a fast growing online precious metals platform that has processed over $750 million in transactions during its first three years in business. Patrick joined APMEX in 2011 and has held roles in Merchandising, Sales, Project Management and Business Development. He played a key role in the company’s 250+ percentage growth on marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon and Walmart. Prior to APMEX, Patrick held roles at asset management companies, and at Fortune 500s, such as Disney and Twentieth Century Fox.

You’ll find out more about Patrick and how to connect with him at the end of this episode.
