  • To Text or Not to Text? Don’t Threaten Gen Z with an Anxious Time!

Hour 3 - New cellphone etiquette rules are in. For Gen Z, it’s now rude to not give a heads-up text about an incoming phone call you’re planning because it gives the receiver anxiety. And forget about voicemails; they’re now considered outdated, so don’t even bother leaving one. California’s gubernatorial race is getting fascinating with the latest controversy surrounding Eric Swalwell, who’s now dropped out due to allegations of sexual harassment and rape. Could it be that we have two Republican candidates in the race to be governor of the Golden State? On the plus side, Lou’s family spring break to the Bahamas was da bomb! Except for the beverage situation. Speaking of, some businesses in California have been exposed for refilling used water bottles and placing them back on shelves. There’s a class-action lawsuit against McDonald’s due to the McRib not containing pork! We went there 54 years ago on the Apollo 11 space shuttle, so why nothing since then, despite leaps and bounds in space-travel technology?

  • Weird Words with Friends, KFI Edition Courtesy of Lou Penrose!

Hour 1 -  Was there a word you grew up mispronouncing within your family that has stuck all these years — like “bisgetti”? Or “toosepase”? How about “flutterbye”? And “ephelant”? There are so many! What's your bisghetti? It turns out that every family has one! Never go back on your said! Meanwhile, “libairy,” “empentween,” “cachoozi,” “pedo” — these are all weird words flooding the memory banks. Except perhaps that last one. Is it pronounced sher-bert or sher-bet? Let’s find out! The San Francisco Giants put on a phenomenal display for MLB Opening Day. And the National Anthem sung by multi-Grammy-winning belter Tony Linsday gave us chills! What a voice! How did they manage to create a USA flag out of smoke?! Talk about the might of Stars and Stripes. Meanwhile, across the country in New York, during the Mets opener, “Hamilton” singer Christopher Jackson flubbed his lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Oops!

  • Does It Hurt So Good in a Small Town Filled with Pink Houses? Just Ask Jack and Diane!

Hour 2 - iHeartRadio Music Awards honored singer John Mellencamp with the Icon Award! He’s been popping out hits for close to 50 years. Mellencamp’s first hit was actually made famous by another artist. “I Need a Lover” was covered by singer Pat Benatar in 1979, after Mellencamp put it on his second album “A Biography.”  In-N-Out now has a pet-friendly burger called the Pup Patty! Remember Don Gorske who was featured in “Supersize Me”? He’s dished his verdict on McDonald’s new burger, the Big Arch. Today is Palm Sunday, the Christian holiday before Easter. It turns out the Catholic Church is back in vogue and picking up new members. When someone offers a lifetime warranty on a product, Lou saves that receipt to ensure that promise is honored.

  • Fly the Friendly Skies — But Not While Looking Like a Slob!

Hour 3 - The dress code fight has moved from the airport to the restaurant! Ruths Chris has implemented a dress code for its steakhouse patrons, including no gym wear, no caps and no exposed undergarments. Meanwhile, fast food chain Chili’s has taken the opposite approach to how its customers dress. They’re just happy to have you! The sandal/flipflop conundrum — should males be allowed to expose their toes over a certain age and especially while out to dinner? Listeners are divided! The Crazy Horse III gentleman's club in Las Vegas has a much longer dress code than that of Ruth’s Chris. It was 52 years ago today that Lou’s favorite show debuted on NBC TV — “The Rockford Files” starring heartthrob James Garner. Your mom loved it! Lou takes us on a tour of KFI Radio ADD. Wake the hell up! And one Mets fan tried the 9-9-9 Challenge — and failed miserably. Lastly, Burger King is apparently the healthiest of the fast food sandwiches and burgers. Why? Because it’s flame broiled!

  • The Use Ruse is Being Abused! Don’t Do It. Shop Smart, Not Greedy!

Hour 1 - Use-and-return shoppers are people who purchase and use the thing maybe one time, then return it. It’s getting out of control, with 39% of shoppers participating in the rude ruse — This includes kitchen utensils and tennis shoes! Now, retailers are tightening return policies and set to charge a fee. Do restaurants and retailers factor in use-and-return to their price increases that then get passed on to honest consumers? Does use and return hit differently for brick-and-mortar stores or online retailers?  The county supervisor in San Francisco wants to go through may of the laws and repeal them. Some of those laws date back 100 years. Did you know it’s illegal to carry bread in an open container or basket? And it used to be illegal to be ugly in public!

  • Hot Dog! For a Buck Fiddy? We Doff Our Hats to Future Gas King Costco!

Hour 3 - To more on TSA and the painfully long lines, repurposing federal workers to fill that need will likely cause even more issues. The CEO of Costco, Ron Vachris, has made a statement about the cost of the Costco hotdog. He said the $1.50 price will not change as long as he’s around. Amen to that! Not only is Costco kicking ass in the hot dog world, but it’s also set to open a massive standalone gas station in Orange County! No one should put toppings on their hot dogs — unless they’re under the age of eight. Five Guys has also changed out its bagging, which has caused a fast-food French fry furor! Not only did Burger King sponsor the Oscars, but it also has a new-look Whopper — Burger King really is the king! What are the happiest countries in the world? Finland tops the list for the ninth year in a row, followed by its Nordic neighbors including Iceland, Denmark and Sweden. Also, Lou’s dating advice for single women? Marry the handy guy!

  • Remote Work. At the Beach?! Well, Naturally — It’s California!

Hour 1 - No one is working from the beach! On Friday, due to the SoCal winter heatwave we’re presently experiencing, around 100 Angelinos took the day off in-office work, brought their laptops to the beach (and some people even brought their desks), and worked remotely. It's no longer a thing to go to the beach to cool off when the mercury spikes — that’s what people did in the 1920s before air conditioning was a thing. Also, the government shutdown is causing a TSA slowdown and subsequent issues at airports. TSA is comprised of government workers, who are now going through a second pay period without receiving their pay due to the shutdown. It’s now ice cream weather! And it turns out the frozen, creamy goodness ain’t so bad for your health. People who eat ice cream regularly have a lower risk of type II diabetes. They also say you should eat bread, but only if it’s sourdough, because it’s good for gut health.  Are elementary schools getting over the top with their punishments? Lou’s 6th-grade son received a school suspension that feels rather arbitrary. Is it now worse for boys than it is for girl students in terms of the punishment they receive? And did you know — butter makes it better??

  • Elementary Schools are Getting ‘Chick-afied’ — Pity the Mad Lads!

Hour 2 -  More to Lou’s 6th-grade son who was punished at school. His crime? Lou Jr.’s friend threw trash in the can but missed, so Lou Jr. picked it off the lunchroom floor and attempted to throw it in the bin, which started a trend. A piece of trash hit one of Lou Jr.’s female classmates, she got upset, and Lou Jr. got a month’s worth of punishment. Are boy students getting picked on and punished by the faculty on account of them not being girl students? Boys will be boys, since when is that a crime?  It started as a meme — young women in Los Angeles daring each other to date a Trump supporter. They thought it would be funny, but it backfired; it turns out they had lovely times. And it activated something feral in them! Just goes to show that nowadays, people do not know how to date!  The potato chip industry is getting hit hard! Is nothing sacred in this economy? Nowadays, is there such a thing as going steady? Is it OK to date multiple people at once? Lou sure seems to think so!

  • Snack Attack! Why Are People Choosing Not to Nosh??

Hour 3 - Campbell's Soup has come out this past week to say no-one is buying snacks anymore. Sales of Pepperidge Farm cookies and Goldfish crackers are also down. Are Trump’s tariffs to blame? You know what won’t help? The rising price of fuel. Meantime, McDonald’s is going in the opposite direction with the $3 menu. While snack-food spending and alcohol spending is down, people are looking for the reason why this is so. Is it due to GLP-1s? The airline industry has factored that it can save nearly $600 million annually on fuel because of GLP-1 weight loss. Dating advice 101: In this economy, don’t marry for money, marry for handiness. The George Michael concert film is set for release later this year!

  • Hour 1 - There’s a lot going on in the world, including an active situation in the Middle East.

And it’s severely impacting the price of gas in the US. The average price went up 40 cents within a week. So why are they blowing up oil fields? The Los Angeles basin is no longer filled with smog, despite more vehicles on the road. It’s due to technology, filtering, and fuel efficiency. Why doesn’t an oil-rich state like California produce more gas and oil? Daylight Savings: Should we leave it as it is now — darker mornings and brighter evenings? Nationals like Russia, Jordan, Iran and Turkey have already done away with daylight savings — should we follow suit?  The burgers wars continue! The CEO of McDonald’s was made fun of by the Burger King CEO and he didn’t like it. That’s what you get for eating a burger publicly — yet weirdly.
