Lori and Heather were both abused by the same perpetrator as children and discuss their journey as friends, survivors, and advocates. Heather recalls the loyal friend she found in Carrie Fisher, who once hand delivered a cow tongue to one of Heather's assailants with the note, "If you ever touch my darling Heather or any other woman again, the next delivery will be something of yours in a much smaller box!"

Michael discusses his journey through an abusive childhood, the turbulent decades that followed, and finding healing through fatherhood. Michael has found peace in being open and honest about the abuse he experienced as a child, and hopes he can relay a simple message to other survivors of child abuse: it wasn’t your fault.

In 1968, Dr. Krugman witnessed his first case of child abuse when a mother brought a baby into a Denver emergency room claiming the child stopped breathing at some point during a movie. Dr. Krugman and his colleagues discovered that not only was the baby deceased, but he was also severely beaten and injured. Dr. Krugman outlines the interactions the mother and the baby had with hospital, public health, police, and social services professionals in the months before the baby’s death – and how 25 of those professionals failed at providing the mother with support and the baby with protection.

After Lori was kidnapped in 1983, she was treated at The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. One of her pediatricians at The Kempe Center was Dr. Dick Krugman, with whom she later went on to create The National Foundation of Child Abuse and Neglect in 2018.
