What is a Christian? --- Romans 12

What does it look like to be a people formed in the image of Christ? It’s growing together with mutual support and kindness. And then it is turning that outward. We are a church when we love those on the outside. It is constantly warring with our human nature. It overcomes evil by creating community in some of the most unlikely of places.

What is a Christian? --- Galatians 5:13-26

While you may commonly see depictions and various names of the Father and the Son whether you are a Christian or not, chances are that the Holy Spirit is a more nebulous concept. Let's examine who the Holy Spirit is and how that exercise is like a stone skipping across the water...and eventually sinking to the bottom.

What is a Christian? --- 1 John 5: 1-8. 11-12

As we continue to investigate this faith that we are a part of, let's review Jesus himself. There are claims of being a prophet, the Son of God, even an aspect of God himself. So let's grapple with the theology of Christ himself. Let's look at the symbolism of water and blood that Jesus taught and personified. Let's meet a man truly worthy of worship.

What is a Christian --- Titus 3:3-7

Does being a Christian change you? Is there some kind of transformation when you make that profession of faith? Maybe not always. But it can. We know that the spirit does have power. We know that when the father welcomes home the prodigal that that kind of love has a life-altering effect to the one who accepts it. There's power in the Great Reversal of Christianity. We just have to find it.

What is a Christian? --- John 1:12-13

Our new series asks "what is a Christian?" While never an easy question, it's been especially difficult of late to define who we are. So let's go back to the scripture and try to find ourselves in a culture where it's increasingly easy to get lost. First, we are a family. We are rooted in love, support, and compassion since our founding. We share bread, we walk in life, and we love as Christ loved us.

The Way Down is the Way Up --- Philippians 2:9-11

He is Risen! Hope and life defeats the grave! As low as Job could go, as low as Lazarus, and of course as low Jesus himself was lain, victory was declared. Our series has been that kind of journey down. And today, finally, we remind ourselves that redemption and resurrection is possible. If the stone in front of the tomb could be defeated, imagine the kind of darkness that we can overcome together!

The Way Down is the Way Up --- John 12:12-19, John 19:1-16

On Palm Sunday, we celebrate the high point of Jesus' ministry, which as we know happens just days before the low point. His triumphant entry and even his trial happened as a fulfillment of scripture familiar to his followers. Little lines of confirmation that despite not being a conquering military force, this rabbi from Nazareth was indeed the Messiah.

The Way Down is the Way Up --- Philippians 2:8

Jesus was a kid. Well, we have at least one account of his childhood, anyway. But he grew up. He lived in a community. And he had a home to begin his ministry in. He used the privilege of being a man not as a cudgel but as a way to engage and uplift his community. That's part of what makes him so worthy of worship. He speaks to us so well because he lived and grew among us, too.

The Way Down is the Way Up --- Philippians 2:7

Good morning, your Majesty! We often talk about the humility of the God of the Universe taking on a human form. But remember that our humanity was also God-breathed. Jesus led by example, showing how wonderful and full of potential our hearts and bodies are. We are made in God's image and Jesus is the culmination of a legacy you and I share today.
