“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds, the leaders of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign Lord : What sorrow awaits you shepherds who feed yourselves instead of your flocks. Shouldn’t shepherds feed their sheep?...” Ezekiel 34:1-2

What are you responsible for in this season. The Lord gave Ezekiel a message to prophesy against the leaders – the shepherds - of the people of Israel and Judah. They had in their selfishness caused the sheep to STARVE, be SCATTERED and STRAY away from God’s perfect plan.

But there is HOPE, what is the remedy?

As leaders we need to help our flock be SUSTAINED, Jesus told Peter to “feed his sheep” – John 21:15. Practicing a daily discipline of self-feeding in the Word and being an example to those we are called to lead. We should provide SAFETY, the community of believers comes together and supports one another. Finally, we should be STRENGTHENING and lifting up those that we see God’s calling on to lead with us.

As creatures of comfort we hate the pain, but through the pain we must SUBMIT TO HIS SOVEREIGNTY and STEWARD THE SITUATION.

We were made by God, for God - not the other way around.

We all start this journey with a LOVE relationship, but how quickly we begin to LUST after other things which leads us to LINGER and experience great LOSS and chaos in our hearts and lives.

“But I came by and saw you there, helplessly kicking about in your own blood. As you lay there, I said, ‘Live!’” (Ezekiel 16:6)

When we find ourselves broken and alone the Lord, in all His Grace, says “LIVE!” But in a world that is overly stimulated and under disciplined we allow our blessings to become Idols leading us back down a path to forgetfulness which quickly leads to faithlessness.

Youth Pastor Michael “OC” O’Connell brought a message Sunday that not only checked our priorities but asked the hard question, “Do you remember the reason you needed Jesus to begin with?”

We must REMEMBER being rescued, REPENT of our rebellion and RECEIVE His grace. Only then can we avoid the endless cycle: Distraction - Disconnection - Discontentment - Disobedience.

Watch, “Do You Remember,” and let us be a people who never forget where God brought us from.

The cross isn’t sweet until our sin becomes bitter.

Kappes Chatfield brought a message that he received from God out of the Book of Ezekiel titled “INTERFERENCE.”

'I, the Lord, will answer all those, both Israelites and foreigners, who reject me and set up idols in their hearts and so fall into sin, and who then come to a prophet asking for my advice. I will turn against such people and make a terrible example of them, eliminating them from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.' - Ezekiel 14:7-8

We were created to worship God and Him alone. There are times in our walk with the Lord that we do not hear from Him due to INTERFERENCE.

Interference is:
Intentional - God is using it for a purpose
an Indicator - pointing out that thing in our life that we have set in the place of God
Instructional - teaching us an important lesson
an Invitation to come back to a place of worshipping the One True God

“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately. If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the PENALTY of DEATH,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths. If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me." (Ezekiel 3:17-19)

Ezekiel was commissioned to preach a word of warning to the captives about their sinful ways. He SAW the Glory & Grace of God, was SENT by His spirit, SELF-FED and was then called to SIT and hear their stories - before he could warn he had to weep.

"A lament or lamentation is a passionate expression of grief, often in music, poetry, or song form. The grief is most often born of regret or mourning."

We all have unmet expectations or have experienced things in our lives that we had hoped had turned out differently. This can be especially difficult when we thought that something was supposed to be from the Lord. God allows us to grieve, but does not want us to stay there. Our focus needs to shift from things hope from the Lord to hope in the Lord.
