It has been eight months since Amy Burns lost her husband Jeffrey. Having grown up as a pastor’s kid, Amy witnessed enough to understand that God has a plan through every trial and storm. It’s through the death of her husband, a man of great faith, that Amy once again saw God’s plan revealed. In July 2023, her husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given six months to live. A year later, his care had been modified from hospice to palliative care. In August 2024, Amy and her husband attended a goddaughter’s wedding, and borrowed her friend’s Ford F150 for the drive home. On that trip home, Amy’s daughter called, but the call dropped. It was then Amy found herself waking to an accident, badly injured and pinned down by her husband on top of her. He did not survive the accident. Had the phone call from her daughter not dropped, her daughter would have heard the accident as it happened. Had they not taken the Ford F150 and been in Amy’s car, Amy would not have survived. Because Jeffrey died in the accident, he did not suffer through a debilitating disease and demise. And yet, in outliving the six months he was originally given to live, he had the joy of walking his daughter down the aisle of her wedding before being called home to the Lord. Lee Krivsky has not walked an easy path. Adopted around the age of 2-years-old, Lee has experienced a lifetime of health issues, including chronic kidney disease, a kidney transplant, a cardiac episode requiring a total of four stints, a cancer diagnosis following the discovery of a spot in his lung and a mass on his colon, and most recently a fungal infection of his lung. Alongside the many health issues, Lee struggled with alcoholism (now 42 years sober), expulsion from college due to an altercation, and early marriage in life that lasted only 6 months. And yet, through many moments of trial, Lee came to recognize the only one he could trust was God. It is the Lord who has steered Lee’s life into many wonderful moments. As pastor of two churches, Lee recognizes that faith can’t be quantified. We just need to be available to the work of the Lord. Like Lee, we will all face varying degrees of trial, but his challenge to us is to recognize where our hope comes from. Veronique Thomas lost her brother Reverand Vernell Cutter in October 2023, with her sister’s passing just a short month later. After her brother’s passing, Veronique learned that her brother left her land and a business in the small coastal nation of Liberia, Africa. Through his non-profit, Gain Global Logistics (GGL), Veronique’s brother focused on workforce development in underserved regions of West Africa. Veronique unofficially did a mission trip to Liberia in November 2024, where she personally experienced the pressing issues within the region. She found that most of the clans in that region lived in clay huts, and the area had no "electricity" - they needed light and power. GGL is working with the Joseph Boakal Foundation (named for the President of Liberia), with the goal of humanitarian support and rural development. In Veronique's humanitarian efforts, she recognizes the area hospitals need newborn incubators, as newborn mortality is very high. The students need educational books and school furniture. There is a special concern for women, providing for their personal needs and offering training and trauma services. Veronique is working hard to have Savannah. GA identified as a sister city to Roberts Port in Liberia to have a port agreement between the two and establish trade relations.
