  • The Sensory Ladder: Understanding Your First Signals of Overwhelm | S2 Ep 5

S2 Episode 5: The Sensory Ladder: Understanding Your First Signals of Overwhelm

“I was fine, and then I just wasn’t.” This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who seems to go from zero to sixty out of nowhere, and for the partner who experiences that sudden check-out as rejection.

Blaze introduces the Sensory Ladder: the personal sequence your body climbs as it approaches overwhelm. For one person it is light sensitivity, then jaw tension, irritability and shutdown; for another, sound distortion, breath-holding, urgency and snapping. She ties it to interoception, one of our eight senses, which many neurodivergent adults were never helped to trust. The aim isn’t to stop the ladder. It’s to recognize which rung you’re on, because the earlier you notice, the more choices you have.

In a couple’s story, one partner’s “withdrawal” turned out to be someone several rungs up: harsh lighting, a tight body, a brain slowing down. Overwhelm didn’t stop, but the misunderstanding did. For one client, what changed was timing: noticing a subtle pressure behind the eyes and simply naming it. The tools are naming the first sensory shift, building your ladder without judgment, and pausing without rushing to fix anything.

One Emotional Takeaway: You’re not overreacting. Your body deserves to be listened to early, gently and with respect.

  • I Thought I Had Healed Until This Happened | S2 Ep 4

S2 Episode 4: I Thought I Had Healed Until This Happened

An old reaction, a shutdown you thought was behind you, or a relational pattern you were sure was done suddenly shows up again. Right behind it comes the self-judgment: what did I miss, and was any of my healing real? This episode is for the neurodivergent adult caught in that moment.

Blaze reframes the experience as return, not failure, a natural part of the Neurodivergent Spiral of Life. She brings in parts work from Internal Family Systems: we all carry parts, and when something resurfaces it is often because a part doesn’t feel safe and is trying to protect us. Playfully, she introduces a few of her own, including a joke-loving seven-year-old boy and a crabby, slipper-shuffling inner critic.

Clients often say, “I thought I already healed this.” When they slow down, Blaze usually finds capacity, not regression: they are safer, more resourced and less alone, so something that couldn’t surface before finally can. The tools are asking “What is being asked of me now?” instead of “Why is this back?”, separating the present you from past pain, and softening the inner timeline. Home Play includes a hand on your chest and the words “I am here now.”

One Emotional Takeaway: Healing isn’t undone by return. It’s revealed by it.

  • Healing Begins When You’re Seen | S2 Ep 3

S2 Episode 3: Healing Begins When You’re Seen

You explain, justify and re-explain your pain, hoping this time someone will believe you. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who learned to survive by making their hurt make sense to others, and for couples where one partner over-explains while the other backs away.

Blaze draws on attachment theory and Dan Siegel’s interpersonal neurobiology: the nervous system regulates through attuned presence. She compares it to a trombone and a flute tuning to each other, different instruments in the same key. Being seen accurately and calmly helps the brain integrate experience. For people whose inner lives have been questioned, that can feel unfamiliar, even unsafe, and it is often the missing piece in healing.

Blaze sees clients who are articulate about their pain and still unseen inside it. When they shift from explanation to presence, their shoulders drop and their breath deepens. The tools are noticing where you over-explain (for connection, or from fear of not being believed), finding one safe witness who listens without fixing, and practicing being seen without performing. Home Play includes sharing one feeling this week, like “I’m tired,” with no explanation attached.

One Emotional Takeaway: You don’t have to prove your pain to deserve care. Your experience is real, especially when it’s quiet.

  • Three Signs You’re at Spiral Level 1 | S2 Ep 2

S2 Episode 2: Three Signs You’re at Spiral Level 1

Everything feels a little harder than it should, you don’t quite feel like yourself, and the inner critic has turned up the volume. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who keeps asking “What’s wrong with me?” and for the partner wondering why their person suddenly needs more space.

Blaze describes Spiral Level 1 of the Neurodivergent Spiral of Life as a state of orientation, not a diagnosis or a breakdown. Drawing on Stephen Porges’ polyvagal theory, she explains that the nervous system is always scanning for safety, and it needs to know where it is before it can problem-solve or connect. She names three signs: effortfulness, disconnection from yourself or others, and harsher self-judgment. None of them means laziness or regression.

Clients often arrive frustrated that they’re “like this again,” and slowing down usually reveals a change in routine, a loss of support, or more sensory load. The tools are naming today’s real capacity, orienting before connecting (three things you see, two you hear, one you feel), and reframing judgment as a familiar pattern. With a playful story about getting lost on purpose, Blaze offers a new phrase: this is a familiar return, and I know how to listen here.

One Emotional Takeaway: Where you are isn’t a problem. It’s a pattern asking to be noticed.

  • The Neurodivergent Spiral of Life | S2 Ep 1

S2 Episode 1: The Neurodivergent Spiral of Life

You did the work, you understood your patterns, and then the old struggle came back anyway, bringing shame with it. This season opener is for the autistic, ADHD, or trauma-shaped adult who keeps asking “why is this back?” and for the partners and couples living alongside that question.

Blaze introduces the framework she created from years of sitting with neurodivergent stories: the Neurodivergent Spiral of Life. Linear models of growth suggest you climb and stay up. Real life doesn’t work that way. Stress, burnout, and changing support send people back to safety, identity, connection, grief, and meaning, again and again. In a spiral, each return happens from a new vantage point, with more context and more self-compassion. Nothing has gone wrong.

Blaze describes clients who felt they’d pressed the elevator button for floor five and fallen through the basement, when really they’d landed on level two with something new to learn there. When a client says “I thought I healed this,” the slower truth is usually that life changed and the nervous system adapted. The tools: ask which spiral level you’re in instead of what’s wrong with you, call a familiar struggle a return, and breathe in for four, out for six.

One Emotional Takeaway: You don’t need to rush forward. You heal by finally allowing yourself to arrive.

  • I Didn’t Set Goals — I Let the Year Hold Me Instead | Ep 84

Episode 84: I Didn’t Set Goals — I Let the Year Hold Me Instead

The year is ending and everyone seems to be making vision boards, writing goals, and choosing a word for next year. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who just wants to be still, and who worries that wanting stillness means something is wrong.

Blaze names stillness at year’s end as integration, not avoidance. Borrowing from ontology, which she studied in her coaching training, she separates who you are being from what you are doing. After a long stretch of recovery, the wisest next step is often to rest where you are rather than force a fresh start. There is no rush to begin again.

Leah spent her whole year recovering from burnout: unmasking layer by layer, leaving a draining job, and slowing her pace. In the final week she had no wish to plan. Instead of resolutions, she named the year in three words, shed, soften, and stay, then lit a candle, took a walk, and whispered “I made it.” She called it the first December she didn’t try to fix herself. The invitation is to end your year with grace and maybe one whispered word.

One Emotional Takeaway: You’re not behind. You are becoming, softly, in your own sacred time.

  • A Year-End Ritual for Neurodivergent Reflection — That Isn’t Overwhelming | Ep 83

    Episode 83: A Year-End Ritual for Neurodivergent Reflection — That Isn’t Overwhelming

Every December the prompts arrive: what did you accomplish, what did you learn, what are your goals? For a neurodivergent adult who ends the year tired, grieving, or tender, that can feel like one more performance review. This episode is for anyone who wants to reflect without turning the year into a spreadsheet.

Blaze explains that reflection isn’t the problem; the checklist format is. Neurodivergent nervous systems often need time to process internally, freedom from judgment, and permission not to think in a straight line. Her alternative is three emotional questions: what was harder than expected, what felt like relief, and what you want to carry forward. Gloria Willcox’s feelings wheel helps when emotions are hard to name.

Dev, an autistic business owner, watched everyone post their top ten wins and said all they’d done was keep their head above water. They lit a candle, read old sticky notes from hard days (“you took a nap instead of pushing”), and whispered “I did all that.” Home Play is one gentle question, a sensory companion such as candlelight, a bath, or a walk, and an honoring phrase like “I made it.”

One Emotional Takeaway: You are not what you achieved or didn’t finish. You are the you who made it to this moment.

  • I Was Supposed to Feel Grateful — But I Just Felt Done | Ep 82

Episode 82: I Was Supposed to Feel Grateful — But I Just Felt Done

Everyone keeps telling you to feel grateful, and all you feel is done. Not ungrateful, not dramatic, just spent from holding everything together for too many months. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who apologizes for needing rest while others make vision boards and year-in-review lists.

Blaze names what often sits underneath that flatness: grief. Grief for what didn’t happen, for what you carried silently, for every time you had to mask. She warns against spiritual bypassing, the habit of rushing straight to gratitude, because anything that skips grief is really hiding it. Surviving a hard year is sacred, and not everything needs to be reframed. Some things simply need to be grieved.

Ray came to a Zoom session slumped and flat, apologizing for low energy. When Blaze asked what if the end of the year is about releasing rather than doing, Ray cried softly and named the job that didn’t work out, the friendships that faded, and the plans that never arrived. Instead of a goal list, they made a grief list. Ray didn’t feel better, but did feel met, and that was enough.

One Emotional Takeaway: Grief is not a detour. It’s a doorway, and surviving is plenty.

  • Reflecting with Collapse — A Therapist’s Guide to Year-End Grief | Ep 81

    Episode 81: Reflecting with Collapse — A Therapist’s Guide to Year-End Grief

December arrives and something in you quietly collapses: unread emails, dropped tasks, a heaviness you’d call burnout, brain fog, or numbness. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who suspects that tiredness might be something more, and who feels pressured to start the new year strong.

Blaze names it as grief, often hiding beneath fatigue. She draws on Pauline Boss’s idea of ambiguous loss, the grief for something gone but never clearly defined. For neurodivergent adults that can mean missed milestones, years of masking, lost opportunities, or a recurring emotional disconnect in a relationship. Alongside it sits the plainer grief of missing people, which often surfaces this time of year.

Andre wanted to lie down and not get up until January. Instead of making a plan, he and Blaze simply sat with what was unresolved: the job he didn’t get, the friend who never texted back, the relationship that fell apart. Asked whether the most honest way to end the year was with softness rather than strength, he realized he wasn’t only sad; he was letting go. Home Play is a soft goodbye ritual, naming one thing you’re grieving, and rest without productivity.

One Emotional Takeaway: You don’t have to begin again just yet. If you’re grieving, you’re already healing.

  • The Year I Created a Holiday That Finally Felt Like Me | Ep 80

Episode 80: The Year I Created a Holiday That Finally Felt Like Me

You decorate, host, and smile through traditions that never quite fit, while quietly ignoring your own needs. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult whose body is already tired by the first week of December, and who wonders whether doing the holidays differently would mean failing everyone.

Blaze offers a simple permission: you’re allowed to un-choose traditions that never fit and make room for ones that do. Opting out doesn’t mean disconnecting from what matters. It means choosing what matters more deeply, and asking what actually brings comfort and helps you feel whole rather than following a script you inherited.

Mel had spent years tending everyone else’s needs. Last year she told her family early that she wasn’t hosting, and she didn’t over-explain. On Christmas morning she made tea, stayed in pajamas, sketched by the window, napped, and watched a nature documentary under a weighted blanket. She still sent a few cards and lit a candle for her grandmother, but from her own center. Her voice afterward was calm, not proud and not apologetic. The question she leaves you with: what would a holiday that feels like you look like?

One Emotional Takeaway: You’re allowed to release what doesn’t nourish you and let this be a season of rest, not performance.
