 In the heart of Michoacán, Mexico, a child was born to Salvador Covarrubias and Albertina Garcia, a child who would grow up to challenge the boundaries of what’s possible for undocumented immigrants in the United States. This child, Sergio Covarrubias Garcia, born on March 1, 1977, would become a beacon of hope and a symbol of the indomitable human spirit. His journey from an undocumented immigrant to the first to be admitted to the State Bar of California since the inclusion of citizenship status in bar applications is a testament to perseverance, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of the American Dream.

 Understanding the value of support and the impact of education, Sergio established the Sergio C. Garcia Foundation. Through his foundation, he has provided scholarships to students facing financial hardships, ensuring that the next generation has the resources to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background or legal status.

Sergio C. Garcia Foundation raises funds through various channels, including fundraising events and Garcia’s speaking engagements. Garcia generously shares his speaking fees with the foundation, underscoring his commitment to the cause. As of early 2014, the foundation had raised $55,000, a testament to the community’s support for Garcia’s mission and the foundation’s objectives.

Sergio Covarrubias Garcia’s journey from an undocumented immigrant to a successful attorney and philanthropist is a narrative of hope, resilience, and unwavering belief in the promise of the American Dream. Shirish Gupta is an award-winning neutral known for his legal acumen and economic prowess, which makes him particularly adept at diving into complex financial/technical disputes, including IP, securities and accounting, and class actions. Shirish is sought out by Silicon Valley startups, as well as Fortune 500 companies.  Shirish is an active, hands-on mediator who works with the parties until the matter is fully resolved. Ms. Batz is licensed to practice law in all California Courts as well as for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She handles general liability in third party litigated matters and first party claims. This includes premises liability, personal injury (including construction related injuries) wrongful death, landlord and property management defense, as well as easement disputes. Ms. Batz has represented individuals, small businesses, as well as large corporations in large exposure litigated matters. She has successfully mediated countless matters and has jury and bench trial experience.

In 2001, Ms. Batz graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Psychology degree. In 2008, she obtained her Juris Doctorate from San Francisco Law School. After passing the California Bar, she spent the first 5 years at a non-profit organization representing seniors and dependent adults in Alameda County Superior Court and at naturalization interviews with U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services. During this time, Ms. Batz completed at least 50 bench trials in Alameda County Superior Court. She is currently the President of Legal Access Alameda, the non-profit arm of the Alameda County Bar Association. In her free time, Ms. Batz enjoys spending with her family and judging college and law school moot court competitions when she can.
