Good or evil flows from each individual's heart. Leaders do not make people good or evil. It is possible for a politician to excite the good or evil tendencies in people for self-gain, but leaders do not imbue people with love or hate. At most they can only awaken the already existing tendencies.

Individual identity can be a detriment when it causes you to care more about yourself than contributing to society. National identity can be harmful when it causes nations to isolate themselves instead of helping other nations. When you contribute to society, then you grow personally and prosper. When a nation contributes to other nations it grows and prospers. This is the spiritual law of "as you sow, so shall you reap".
