Love Your Shelf

Things take a dark turn as Crystal and Emily talk about what they’re reading, watching, and listening to this week.

Emily is back with Crystal to provide a quick update and some excellent recommendations.

Librarian extraordinaire Sonja Shultz joins Crystal to talk about everything from French philosophy to cookbooks, and social justice to ZZ Top.

Crystal is joined by book nerd extraordinaire, artist Candace Hicks, who also happens to be her sister.

Crystal is joined by guest Jessica Sowell of the Nacogdoches Historic Sites to chat about books, shows, and weird shopping lists.

Crystal and Emily introduce the theme for the summer reading program, Imagine Your Story, which will explore fairy tales and myths. They delve into the darker side of some fairy tales and review some recent shows that ride the line between dark and wacky. And this year's community read is announced, Circe by Madeline Miller, a twist on the myth of an outcast goddess who lives on a deserted island.

This week the 80s kid and the 90s kid wax nostalgic about the books, movies, and pop culture that shaped them. Crystal goes from A Kiss For Little Bear to Val Kilmer, and Emily reveals how she grew from loving Madeline to Hansen. The contest this week asks YOU to share your weirdest and most obscure nostalgic love! From Nacogdoches Public Library.

Elia joins Crystal and Emily to discuss what they’re reading, watching, and listening to while the Nacogdoches Public Library is closed. This week’s listener contest asks for “what’s making you happy this week”. Share and get a shout out in the next episode.
