How do you convey your value in an interview? This is an interesting challenge. We are tempted to talk too much, to jam too much information into our answers in an attempt to cover all the bases. This actually has the opposite effect. When you try to be "all the things" all you do is water down your message.
So, just how DO you actually get all your value across (and more!) to the person you're talking to? The solution is simple:
Curiosity.
Seek first to understand, then be understood. - Stephen Covey, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The number one thing you can do to make a lasting impression in an interview is ask questions. Ask questions from a place of curiosity, helpfulness, and understanding.
You don't need to be the hero in this conversation. Be the consultant. Be the guide. Listen and ask questions all along the way. Paint a picture about what it's like to work with you.
This is so powerful!
You WILL stand apart from other candidates, no doubt about that.
