Loving the Scriptures

We all know John 3:16 by heart and quote it often, especially when it comes to sharing the gospel with others. In this episode, we talk about this beloved verse and dig in to its surrounding context in order to better understand God's perfect plan and how this would have been received by the one to whom Jesus was originally speaking at the time.

In the past fee episodes we have been talking about God's intention of making Jews and Gentiles into one people. In this episode we see how that plan unfolded in the book of Acts.

How should we understand the Abrahamic promise in Genesis 12? Does it apply to the nation of Israel, or does the Bible give us a broader understanding that is explained for us in the New Testament? In this episode, we take the time to talk about the first three verses, as well as Galatians 3, in order to come to a complete interpretation.

In this episode we begin a short series on exploring how we should biblically understand the church and Israel. We start out by gaining the New Testament perspective, drawing from Paul's words in Ephesians 2:11-22, where he explains what God's intention is for both Jews and Gentiles.

In this episode we explore Psalm 2, where we talk about the rebellion of man in general and government rulers in particular; the rulership of Jesus Christ despite the world's desire to the contrary; and we talk about how rulers in government can be ones who submit to the lordship of Christ through the gospel.

In this episode, we explore the threefold question from our Lord to the apostle Peter: "Do you love me?" We'll talk about what is being accomplished in asking these questions, where Peter's heart was in all of this, and what this says about how God shows grace to His followers, even when they have previously messed up.

In the last chapter of the Gospel of John, we see an apostle Peter who may be struggling with doubt in his effectiveness for the Lord and who thus decides to go back to his prior career of fishing. But the Lord has other plans for him. In this episode we begin to talk about how Jesus deals with him to bring him back to the proper path.

Many skeptics through the years who have doubted the reliability of the Bible have aimed their criticisms at the resurrection narratives in the four New Testament Gospels, saying that they are filled with too many contradictions and inconsistencies. But is this charge valid? In this episode, I take the time to harmonize the resurrection narrative in the four Gospel accounts and explain how the things that critics call contradictions aren't contradictions at all.

In this episode, we talk about the purpose of John's Gospel, which John himself lays out in John 20:30-31, and how this stated purpose is connected to what we have just seen regarding Jesus' appearance to Thomas.
