On today's early morning edition of Tiger Tailgating, Mike Detillier and Herb Tyler get together to preview LSU taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, SC. as both teams look to come out with some serious momentum heading into the meat of the schedule and Jeff Palermo, Louisiana Radio Network news & sports director and Host on Tiger Rag radio, joins Mike and Herb to recap LSU v. Nicholls last week which was much closer than it should've been, and how LSU's defense appears like it hasn't grown much from last year. Later on, Mike and Herb break down how the teams are much more similar than we think and we hear from Zach Nagy, who covers the LSU Tigers for Sports Illustrated, on LSU needing to expand their playstyle beyond the pass threat and who on the Tigers can do that.
In this hour, Mike and Herb break down LSU Tight end Mason Taylor turning the corner this year as he steps up in an area where the Tigers have been relatively quiet as of late, Herb also gives us some insights as to how a screen play can work when done correctly, before Zach Nagy, who covers the LSU Tigers for Sports Illustrated, joins the gang for our Tiger's Scout Notebook as the Tigers and Gamecocks are almost the same exact team with shared strengths and weaknesses, and how vital the center position is being led by CJ Chester as the Tigers look to diversify their playbook since they've still yet to establish a premiere run game.
Mike and Herb call up Zach Nagy, publisher of LSU Tigers on Sports Illustrated, as the Tigers and Gamecocks are almost identical teams with the same strengths and weaknesses, showing that the cliche will be true today that the game will be won in the trenches, as Kyren Lacy has stepped up to become the new WR1 who will become the guy behind the guy, the center is as vital a position as any of them, and new guy CJ Chester has been fantastic in a pass protection standpoint but the Tigers need to diversify that playbook and start adding in the run game.
Mike and Herb open up the second hour discussing to see what area SC will match up to try and stop Mason Taylor where the Tigers can make some noise and Herb enlightens Mike on what makes a screen play really work, and how confident will SC's defensive front can be to pressure Nussmeier into making a mistake.
