Some people are told that they aren't true Christians unless they have certain gifts. What does God say about these things? In this episode, we study 1 Corinthians 11:23-32, a passage that gives believers instructions for the celebration of the Lord's Supper. Some churches rarely observe the Lord's Supper, while others practice it as a "necessary work" for salvation, regardless of a person's acceptance of the gospel and obedience of faith. These are a couple of reasons why some Christians are uncertain what's important about this celebration and what a Christian's duty is in it. In this episode, we study the beginning to Paul's instructions on the Lord's Supper in 1 Corinthians 11. Before explaining the purpose and importance of the Lord's Supper, Paul rebuked church members at Corinth for their behavior in fellowship meals. It seems some people were completely focused on themselves. They didn't want to share their food with anyone else. Some even went to the extreme of arriving early so they could eat everything before someone else came. What do these examples highlight about our sinful nature, and what is the transformed perspective Christians must put into practice? In this episode, we begin by looking at God's instructions to parents in Deuteronomy 6:6-9. God says that parents are to teach their children by continuously relating life back to the instructions and commandments of God. Sometimes today, even professing Christians make comments about scripture like it's not really applicable today. It's an old book that's difficult to make interesting for children. Is this really a true representation of the Bible or a betrayal of our lack of knowing what is really in the Bible? In this episode, we study 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, a passage which describes the God's leadership structure in the Godhead and in the church with men and women. Feminism has caused much disobedience and difficulty within the church, especially in Western culture. Satan has tried to eliminate the concept of what is distinctly male or female. This has led to much tentative teaching around passages such as the one we examine in this episode. Leaders are afraid to offend people's sensitivities, but the world needs a church that is unapologetic in its proclamation of God's truth and unflinching in its own faith and submission to the commands of God.
