This is a “note to self” to stay hopeful and encouraged amidst the growing DIY design culture. We see the tools sprouting up everywhere: DIY website designer, DIY print websites, DIY logo makers. It can feel like Graphic Designers are nearing extinction but that’s really not the case. We need to flip the narrative on its’ head and view this in a positive light.

As a business owner, you’re probably handling communication with multiple people a day. Whether you’re dealing with a team of people or independent contractors, at times it can feel like you have ongoing conversations happening from all angles. As a fellow business owner, I can say there are procedures I’ve started to put in place that make communicating with multiple people easier and more efficient. I’ve also found these rules to be not only advantageous for my own time but considerate to others.

Valuing our work and charging accordingly is one of the toughest challenges we face as designers. We can talk about how much we charge later but on this episode, I want to discuss the 3 different ways you can charge for your design services. Designing business logos is one of the more popular jobs among graphic designers. This is usually one of the first projects you start off with in your career; it was for me. Depending on what college you attended, you may or may not have been taught the correct way to design a logo. Over the years, I’ve learned there’s a wrong and right way to logo designing. Today, I am sharing what I’ve learned over the last thirteen years so I can hopefully steer you in the right direction as you move forward.

As a fellow business owner, I know your time is of the essence. There’s a lot of pressure put on businesses to stay active on social media. Most of the time, you can admit, this business task gets left off the to-do list compared to operational essentials. There is a way to schedule posts on all your platforms at the same time so you can keep that item on your to-do list and check it off every time.
