Dark clouds move from the countryside to the capital, where seven Bábís, including the Báb's beloved uncle, Hájí Mírzá Siyyid 'Alí, are brought before the Prime Minister and commanded to recant their faith. All seven refuse and, to the astonishment of their fellow citizens, willingly sacrifice their lives in the town square of Tehran.

Conditions in the fort become increasingly difficult. Quddús gives words of strength and courage to the remaining companions who joyfully celebrate Naw Ruz even in the face of increasingly desperate conditions. Unable to defeat the Bábís, the cowardly Prince Mihdí Qulí Khán resorts to treachery and the siege comes to an end. This episode features a live song written in honour of Quddús.

When Mullá Husayn receives instructions from the Báb to fly a black flag across Persia and proclaim the coming of the Promised One, a local priest incites a mob to ambush him and his companions. Mullá Husayn's indomitable spirit fends off the attackers and he and his companions take shelter at the Shrine of Shaykh Tabarsí, where they build a fort to protect themselves from further attacks.
