Why you need to check out this episode:

    Notable Quotes:

"Your patients understand that you are human. And if your patients understand you are human, they're going to understand, like 'the same account that's telling me medical staff may also tell me something about politics, may also tell me something about music, may also tell me something about a sporting event,' because that's how a human typically works. If you want to have the social media platforms where literally all you talk about is this one thing, you can do so, but understand that kind of keeps you limited." – Dr. Berry Pierre

  • CDC Loosens up some Restrictions on COVID-19

In this episode of Real Physician Reacts I want to discuss the recent guideline changes made by the CDC in regard to COVID-19.

Several key changes that I think people are going to either love/hate

    1. No more 6-foot quarantine distance
    2. Recommends being up to date on all vaccines including boosters
    3. Infected people can end isolation after 5 days and wear a mask for 10 days if they are asymptomatic
    4. Contact tracing only in healthcare settings and high-risk areas

Hear my thoughts tonight on why you should expect to see a new wave of people who didn't trust the CDC all of the sudden trust them wholeheartedly.

  • The Routine Doctor's Visit with Dr. Berry Pierre

In this episode of Medicine Mondays, we are going to be talking about the most important visit you can make to your doctor's office. We are going to be kind of piggybacking off our last couple of episodes where we talked about high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which kind of leads into the reason why we need to discuss it, because, during this visit, we're going to ask all of the questions and important things needed to be done during this exam.

The "routine" doctor's appointment is so unlike the ordinary visit you would have while visiting your doctor. For many people, getting your health in order for the whole year begins with your annual exam.

From a medical professional's viewpoint, this is the routine appointment where I can spend the most time with my patient and actually be compensated for doing so.

However, the patient's perspective is that this is the regular appointment when you may discuss all of your concerns with your doctor that you generally don't have time to do so during any quick appointments you may have.

Today, we'll discuss the unique aspects of this appointment, including the questions you may anticipate being asked, the normal blood tests, and the diagnostic exams based on age, race, and gender that are required.

    This podcast aims to educate you on the ensuing discussions;

    • The importance of making the doctors visit a routine
    • Why much emphasis on the annual visit?
    • Why does your doctor get to spend so much time with you during that visit?
    • What are some of the questions you should expect during this exam?
    • What are some of the common labs and diagnostic tests ordered during your annual exam?
    • Why do you need to make a routine out of it?

  • Are we Prepared for a Monkeypox Outbreak?

On this episode of Real Physician Reacts we will be revisiting a conversation we had on our Medicine Monday series where we introduced the Lunch and Learn Community to the topic of the monkeypox virus. At the time it was more of an informational session as we had just a few cases to even discuss at the time but clearly didn't know where we were headed.

At the time of the episode, we are currently at 2400+ cases of monkeypox just here in the United States and it does seem to not be slowing down anytime soon. After a spirited discussion on my TikTok platform, I figured it was best we revisit the discussion and try to answer a question I am getting more and more lately.

Are we prepared for a monkeypox outbreak?
