On this week's episode of the Lunch and Learn with Dr. Berry I get a chance to highlight an opportunity I had to provide some well deserving medical students with tips on how to succeed ERAS season. For those who may not be aware during the last year of medical school you have to apply to residencies using a standardized application (ERAS), and as a program director I have been in charge of reviewing all of the applications that come to our program. Over the past two years I have had the opportunity to see some common mistakes that medical students were making over and over again so I set out to correct it.
What to look for...Listen to the show as I discuss why I decided to venture out in the world of live webinars, what are the driving forces behind me when it comes to being a mentor and why I feel that closing the door isn't an option.

On this week's podcast episode we discuss what appears to be the tried and true tradition of bias against overweight and obese people in the health field. I would love to say that I am shocked by the findings but growing up always on the heavier side it was quite evident that things are different when you are overweight in the doctor's office.
What to look for...Listen to the show as I discuss just what happened to bring this podcast episode to the light. Learn about the steps physicians can take to lesson their bias against overweight patients and why has it gotten so bad that even medical students are picking up these horrible traits.

This week's podcast episode is a troubling one because I have to highlight what happens when you have a physician who isn't culturally competent. Today we highlight a terrible situation where a patient who is willingly seeking to take care of her health care needs but needs the help of her daughter to help translate only to find out her physician isn't accepting of this arrangement. Being culturally competent is something that unfortunately most physicians and professionals are not. I will be discussing why this has negative effects on you as the patient and on physicians as a whole.

This week's podcast episode is a special one as we have our first discussion with someone on the proverbial front lines in health care, THE PATIENT. With everyone wearing pink this month to bring awareness to Breast Cancer I knew that the point usually doesn't hit home unless its up close and personal. Bringing together a special episode is none other than a friend and former teacher of mines Pam Whigham discussing exactly what it means to be aware of Breast Cancer as she was recently diagnosed earlier this year and still is working on fully accepting the diagnosis.
Listen to the show as we discuss with Ms. Whigham why Breast Cancer was a diagnosis she did ever expect to hear, what did she do after first learning the diagnosis and what she would do different.

On the podcast episode this week we discuss the importance of October and Breast Cancer Awareness and selfishly discuss why men should be a vocal supporter of the cause. With October officially being Breast Cancer Awareness Month we know its easy to be swept into the mania of wearing everything pink but I believe we really have to stress the true importance of not only being aware of the problem but learning how to recognize when help is warranted.
Listen to today's show as we discuss the signs and symptoms, risk factors and different diagnostic testing for Breast Cancer.
