Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most common functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder with worldwide prevalence rates ranging generally in the area of 10–15%. IBS is the most common disorder diagnosed by gastroenterologists, and in the United States alone, IBS affects 25-45 million people alone. More often than not, women have higher diagnosis rates than men, but overall, information on IBS including how it is triggered and how to deal with symptoms is still limited. In the very first episode of Luxury IBS, I share my 16 year journey with IBS. This topic is incredibly important to me, and I share the physical, mental and emotional toll IBS has taken on me. During the next 45 minutes, I cover my initial diagnosis, being medicated for ADHD and dealing with my declining mental health, and why unhealed trauma prevents you from actually healing yourself In this episode, you’ll hear:
- A deep dive into 8 year struggle with physical and mental health
- Dealing with bloating, constipation, declining health and a celiac disease diagnosis
- The trigger for a downhill spiral - food poisoning, being diagnosed with SIBO, leaving conventional medicine and the impact of losing my support system
- The impact of people pleasing behavior had on my food choices and my physical health
- What I did to start my uphill journey towards healing and progress
- My new routine and habits that changed my life
