If we’re honest, most of us want what’s comfortable, or easy, or whatever keeps us from having to fulfill our responsibilities. But that fleeting comfort will never lead us to embrace lasting joy. Let’s see why it’s worth it to avoid what’s comfortable now, embrace a divine discomfort, and chase an eternal comfort in Christ.  

Seeking approval from others almost always lets us down. It’s easy to obsess over what people think, be sensitive to criticism, and have a hard time saying “no.” We must decide to focus on pleasing God instead of seeking approval from others.

Intercessory prayer begins with a love for another. It compels us “to come between” their needs and the Supplier. While heaven is the engine room for the power of prayer, earth is where the action happens. Something happens in us as we seek the things of heaven for others; we get compelled to become part of the solution.  

Even though God can do anything and everything he wants without us, he has established a powerful rule within the spiritual: ask. God has chosen to respond to the ask. And it is because of the ask that we have the opportunity to deepen our relationship with Him. 

Nothing is hidden from God. We tend to think of confession as transparency, but transparency ends at discovering the truth, vulnerability on the other hand reveals our heart along with the truth. The work of the cross does not end with redemption but is also our path for restoration.  

This week will discuss why we begin a posture of prayer with the proper perspective of God. When God is prioritized over us, it changes everything else we pray about. Greater than our desire to get what we want needs to be our desire for him to be recognized.  

Week one will explore what holds us back from spending time in prayer. What are the reasons that we don’t pray? We will take a surface look at the Lord’s prayer to see what prayer is ultimately for, and why we can’t stay in relationship with Jesus without it.
