  • #28: Lyme Ninja - Deb Elder - Oregon
Deb Elder, or Dive Girl Deb is a lyme disease activist in Oregon. after being misdiagnosed and suffering for over 20 years. Deb was told by the hospital system her health plan covers that their Infectious Disease doctors do NOT treat Lyme Disease PERIOD. Deb has been active in Eugene and throughout the state of Oregon putting on events to bring greater awareness of Lyme disease.
She became interested in Bee Venom Therapy, or Apitherapy and after learning about its many benefits, started practicing on herself with great results. Bee Venom has been used for 6,000 years to treat many conditions, and can kill 1,200 infectious agents, including parasites, bacteria, and viruses. The other cool thing about Bee Venom, especially for Lyme patients is it pokes holes in biofilms, which can give antibiotics, herbs, or your own immune system access to the bacteria.
Deb promotes Apitherapy as a cheap and effective therapy for lyme disease, by itself or in conjunction with other therapies. She shares her experience with Bee Venom Therapy on the Facebook page "Apitherapy to treat Lyme & Co-infections Eugene OR” where she answers questions, posts bee articles,

  • #26: Lyme Expert - Professor Holly Ahern - Researcher
Holly Ahern, Ph.D. is an associate professor of microbiology at SUNY Adirondack who runs an undergraduate research lab. She first encountered Lyme disease when her daughter, a highly ranked competitive swimmer, became ill with “a weird set of symptoms” in her senior year of high school.
When Holly Ahern found out that her daughter’s mysterious illness was Lyme disease, she quickly immersed herself in the subject. She soon learned about the controversies swirling around the disease and came to realize that many others were suffering like her daughter. Ahern has become an advocate for developing a broader understanding of Lyme disease – one aimed at treating the chronic symptoms commonly reported by patients who were misdiagnosed or received inadequate treatment in the disease’s early stages.
Her goal is to change the official CDC case definition of Lyme disease, which could attract more attention and funding to Lyme disease.

  • #24: Lyme Ninja - Miss Diagnoses – Cartoonist, Author, The Miss Diagnoses Blog
This bio is pulled directly from Miss Diagnoses' blog.
I’ve spent the last few years learning to cope with pain and and not dealing with the root causes. Coping with pain takes a lot of time and money: acupuncture, physical therapy, osteopathy—you name it, I’ve tried it.
I have lots of brain fog, yet I need to research; this is one of the reasons I started this blog. I spent the last few years being too depressed to do anything at all. Now I want to find others who share my illnesses or relate to me, and to tell the crazy stories of my life, because life with chronic illness is truly crazy!
Although I just got a Lyme diagnosis, 2014 was the first year (since my low point in 2009-2010) that I felt my health was improving. I hope I’m not jinxing things by saying that. It’s a long, slow road, but I hope I continue to get better.
