I get my girlfriend small, unexpected gifts — most of them revolve around food. There's nothing better than seeing a smile on your partner's face after you both have had a long day at work.

This is called respecting each other. Don't argue in front of friends and family. That's not cool. You can raise your voice, but do that behind closed doors. No one likes to see a couple argue — and it's awkward for all of us

Be it the big or little spoon, spooning is one of the best things of being in a relationship. Hugging (or being hugged) by a warm body that's the best way to take that mid-afternoon Saturday nap.

The "Groove session" is a show that explores all aspects and matters of the heart. As someone who has never been in a relationship, I was fortunate enough to observe many different relationships throughout the years thanks to both friends and family. There were some good as well as bad sides to every situation I've seen. Watching these relationships unfold showed me that they are fragile and require a lot of work. I hope to provide my insight as to how to keep a relationship strong and provide some ideas that have not yet considered and hope that as a listener; you can take these suggestions to heart and possibly learn from your mistakes through my eyes.

Sometimes, they want you to push back. Don't just profusely apologize. Have a backbone. It'll be tough, because it feels like everything is going wrong, but you just have to take the stand.

I've been guilty of half-listening to my girlfriend. And that means you give half-assed responses. That is not good. Put down what you're doing — or at least, tell your significant other to give you a second if you are in the middle of something dangerous, then give them your full attention.

Developing self-awareness means getting to know and understand what drives you to react and behave the ways you do in your relationship. It means understanding the needs and fears, messages, unrealistic expectations and fantasies which drive you to react and behave the way you do and the price you pay for it. It means realizing the ways in which you might harm your relationship, learning how to stop it from happening and becoming empowered to cultivate a successful intimacy.

There are many who never admit they might be wrong. They fight with their partner to prove they're right. This only escalates the problems. However, wherever there are two people there are often two opinions and two perceptions of "how things should be."
When you become aware of what drives you to react and behave in your relationship the way you do, and of the ways in which you might harm your relationship, you become more willing to take responsibility for your part in the problems and difficulties which arise between you and your partner. Taking responsibility shows that you too might be wrong. Place the relationship in front of "justice," and be willing to compromise.
