This is the first of many episodes that are focused on the Missing Women Task Force.  If you don't know what this is, let me explain.  You should probably go back and listen to the deep dive that is about Ole Wee Willie Pickton, the Canadian Serial Killer that claimed to have killed forty-nine (49) women, was aiming for fifty (50) victims before he took a break.  He was charged with the first degree murder of twenty-seven (27) women.  One of those charges was dismissed, for some inexplicable reason.  He was then tried for only six (6) murders.  Although, he will remain in prison, this was not justice for the forty-three (43) other women he had admitted to murdering.  So Paige and I decided to try to dig into each woman on the Taskforce's flyer and give them a voice.  We cover six (6) women in this episode.  Be warned, there are tears.

This is not a drill... THIS IS A FULL ASS T-Rex Episode and there are sooooo many triggers!

 

Now that that's out of the way.  Let me just say, this is the hardest episode in the series about Willie Pickton.   In this episode we discuss Project Evenhanded doing the damn thing.  Don Adams, Dana Lillies, and our boy Nathan Wells are the main characters.  I do read from the book, 'On the Farm' by Stevie Cameron.  She does an amazing job detailing every aspect of this case.  

 

Also, in this episode, we dive deep in the interrogation, the cell plant, and what was found from February 2002 to September of 2002.  Honestly, I couldn't handle much more.  We'll wrap this all up in Part 5, and then focus on each victim, or as much as we can on each victim.

As always with this case, ALL THE TRIGGERS!!! All them... just know that before going into it.  

If you haven't already, go listen to parts 1 & 2.  You'll get a more broad picture of what is actually happening... but if you haven't guessed, the VPD is still ignoring the issue, ol wee Willie is still abducting and murdering women, and the families are continuing to be traumatized by all of it.  

On a good note, Project Even Handed is brought into existence and does the damn thing.  They do their research, they broaden their search on the actual number of women associated with one particular set of disappearances, and they reach out to the families.  Are they perfect, nope, but it seems like Don Adam (head of the task force) actually gives a damn.  

Ohhh and then we get to meet, our boy Constable Nathan Wells.  Just know, we love him.  Anyway, he is the reason Project Evenhanded got into the door and Willie was taken down.

First of all, all the triggers... It's Willie Pickton, I feel like that's an unnecessary warning.  In this full-ass T-Rex episode, we dive into the ridiculousness that is the Vancouver Police Departments inability to admit there was in fact a serial killer... this is an obvious theme.  We meet some badasses, some complete asshats, and we learn more women went missing under the VPD's nose.  We learn about a fraction of the numerous individuals who knew about what Willie was doing, who did absolutely nothing to help.

First, we discuss the disappearance of TiJae Baker.  She is a 23 year old woman missing from Brooklyn.  She was last seen by her mother on May 1st, but has been seen two other times.  From the lack of reporting and lack of blustery law enforcement movements, her mother has been working her ass off to find her daughter.  Listen for more details.  

The main story is just as infuriating.  Catrina Mowrey was living in Texas, living her best life, when at 24 years old she was MURDERED.  That's in all caps, because, the investigation on this case led to generations of torment.  For 37 years, her family and friends believed Catrina had died of suicide or overdose, when in fact there was no evidence of either.  If you want to be part of the solution, go to the change.org website and sign the petition to reopen and actually investigate this case.
