At long last, Default Folder is back. Jon Gotow of St. Clair Software tells us why a full re-write of one of the Mac’s best utilities was required with the release of El Capitan, and how the restrictions imposed by System Integrity Protection are a necessary part of today’s world. Jon gives us a run down of Default Folder’s feature set, including what wasn’t possible with the new restrictions, as well as a review of St. Clair’s other products. This MacVoices Briefing covers the Vario Protect case for iPhone and FolioSlide case for iPad, both from ZeroChroma. In what may be the last Gift Guide show of 2015, the panel of Mark Fuccio, Jeff Gamet, Steve Sande and Chuck Joiner deliver a wide variety of ideas that range from free to expensive, simple to complex, practical to frivolous, with some distinct iPad and digital photos themes.

Ted Landau checks in with a report card on Apple’s year. Find out how he thinks the iPad Pro, App Store, Apple TV, iPhone 6S, Live Photos, iMac and more contributed to the state of Apple as we close out 2015. Ted also discusses his love of his TiVo Roamio, virtual reality in 2016, and how his perspective on tech has changed as a result of his retirement from writing.

Oliver Breidenbach of Boinx Software gives us a live demonstration of their new Apple TV photo sharing and display app, PhotoWall+. A successor to the highly successful PartySnapper for iOS, PhotoWall+ now gives you the same capabilities with your Apple TV, no host software on an iPad or iPhone required. You and your friends can take photos with your iPhones at your next party or event and have them appear instantly on your big screen. Oliver shows us how it works, explains where the photo collection is aggregated, and outlines the feature set. He also talks about Boinx’ first experience with developing for the Apple TV, and why he feels it is a compelling platform for the future. This edition of MacVoices is sponsored by Lynda.com. Kirk McElhearn, “The iTunes Guy”, helps us understand the benefits of Apple’s recent increase from 25,000 to 100,000 tracks for Apple Music and iTunes Match uploading. You would think it is simple, right? Not so fast. Kirk takes us through exactly what happens when you upload tracks to your Apple Music library and  when you opt to match those tracks to get better quality versions. Playing them can download them to your Mac or iOS devices, taking up valuable space that you might have thought you were saving. There are questions over what happens to the track’s meta-data and even cover art if you chose to do one or both. Before you flip that switch, backup of your iTunes library and see what Kirk as to say. This edition of MacVoices is sponsored by Lynda.com.
