Ville Simola is the CEO of Maria01. This is the leading leading startup hub in the Nordic’s. After their planned expansion it will be Largest Startup and Venture Campus in Europe!
Around the same time he was also part of a startup himself: Checkmylevel their goal was to monitor and optimise your training readiness and recovery.
Ville was here responsible for the Marketing and back then he was also training for a triathlon, a milestone (according to me) is 2018, in that year he participated in the ironman race. This is considered one of the most difficult oneway sport events in the world.

Jan Portheine is one of the founders of KARTENT. As a kid, he lived abroad and went to the International School in Yokohama (JAPAN). In the Netherlands, he got the master's in ARCHITECTURE, which contributed to the creation of KarTent.
KarTent is a company that makes different cardboard products, but it started making CARDBOARD TENTS. It is a SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION to tent trashing because cardboard tents are easy to recycle or upcycle.
Jan doesn't see himself as an activist, but he can be intrigued with how we do things as humans. He likes ice-skating and, sometimes, he likes to try out something for a week, for example, a week without plastic.

SUMMARY
***********
In this episode, we cover how Jan came up with the idea to use cardboard to create "housing" at the beach. This topic goes hand in hand with the end of the PRODUCT LIFE-CYCLE and sustainability.
Every business has to deal with people who doubt your idea and naysayers. For Kartent, it was not much different. Maybe it was even harder to convince people without having the actual product ready because of cardboard tents... it just sounds odd. Jan shares a FUNNY STORY on how some people responded to him reaching out and offering his product.
We also dive into the benefits and downsides of growing up abroad such as making friends, schooling, and language. One effect of living abroad that I can very much relate to is LANGUAGE. Over the years, my accent has changed from sounding Dutch to Italian and Eastern European, and sometimes, I am struggling with my native tongue.
