Jonah’s life is an epic story to teach us all something incredibly important- God's love for everyone. God is relentless in His efforts to refine us, challenge us, shape our hearts in His will, and walk alongside us. In Jonah’s story, God arranged a calling, a storm, a great fish, a second chance, a plant for comfort, a worm to take it away, and a scorching wind . . . all to turn up the heat, not only on Nineveh but also on Jonah’s need for a change of heart. Jonah’s story ends with him hanging on the ledge of unmerciful bigotry. The point of all of this and the question for each of us to answer is, “Will I join him on that ledge?”

While we are incredibly grateful that God gives us second chances, He often takes us right back to the place where we said “no.” Jonah goes to the very place he at one time ran away from and preaches one of the shortest sermons ever preached. But the power was not in Jonas sermon, but the power was in what God did through the very reluctant prophet. Let’s read together as we look at how a group of people that Jonah thought were unredeemable, believe God and then broke out into a nationwide fast.

Sometimes our rebellion takes us on paths we never imagined, further and deeper in turmoil. As we contemplate the direction and predicament of our decisions we find that floods, waves, and billows pass over us as a reminder of our failures. Jonah’s story reminds us that while in the grasp of rebellion, there is still a God Who listens, awaits our repentance, and offers His mercies anew, often with the same calling and a new perspective.

Like Jonah, we sometimes have really good reasons for choosing not to do what God wants us to do. We can always find “a ship ready” to go in the opposite direction. The book of Jonah gives us a picture of how there’s a little bit of Jonah inside of all of us. Today, we’re going to look in Jonah Chapter 1 at the dangers of letting reason stand in the way of our call to give the same mercy to others that we have received.

David had such an intimate relationship with God that he was inspired to share with us the very nature of God as seen through His instructions to us. God’s word revives us, enlightens us, brings clarity to us, and unites truth and righteousness forever. This all-purpose message when properly applied gives us staying power in His will and purifies us from within.

God’s word is like a mirror. The word can point out our areas of growth and reveal the grace we need to receive. However, just like a mirror, the power is not in just what we look at but how we respond to it. In this text, James shares how a meek heart that is ready to act can help us to not misuse or mishandle God’s word. Today, we will discuss a way for us to receive God’s word transformationally.

After 40 days of prayer and fasting in the Judaean wilderness Satan arrived on the scene to capitalize on Jesus’ vulnerability. He came to call into question God’s provision, His protection, and His promise through three specific types of temptations. Jesus engages in battle with Satan, not with defensiveness, but by going on the offensive using the powerful words of God to defeat the evil one. In today’s message, we will be reminded that we can know his techniques of temptations and that God’s word, when internalized and put into practice, is the ultimate guarantee of victory.

We have all been at point where we were "on the verge of repentance." Maybe it was the cost or the vulnerability that caused us to ignore the one thing and the One we needed the most. Ezra 9-10 contains one of the most incredible examples of repentance. God's people had married pagan wives. Acknowledging their sin, Ezra falls to his face and rips his clothes and his hair. This one man's risky and vulnerable response opens the door for others to make that same risky and vulnerable response in their lives. Today we will discuss how "Repentance is the Remedy."

After a generational rebellion and 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, God's people were finally prepared to enter the Promised Land. Moses, knowing he will not enter the land with them, reminds them of their rescue from slavery and calls every father in the camp to heed the words of God's instruction so that they may overwhelm the pagan culture of the land and flourish. Our marching orders remain the same today. Remember our bondage in sin and how Christ rescued us so that we may enter our culture with the light of His goodness and provision.
