This is the first verse of the song ‘Hugulo’ by folk singer-songwriter Taba Chake from Arunachal Pradesh, sung in his native language, Nyishi. Whether you understand the language or not, it’s his music that moves you. On this episode of Maed in India, Taba talks about the correct way to pronounce his name, how he didn’t get fed in boarding school, why he dropped out of music school, and that house on the hill. He also plays you music from his debut multi-lingual album Bombay Dreams, along with an unreleased and untitled song which will feature in his next album!

We have alternative rock band from Bangalore, Parvaaz, making their second appearance on Maed in India. They perform some of the songs from their latest album, Kun, which sound refreshingly different from what’s on the album. Listen to them spill the beans about Kun and their existential crisis. Every year, picking our favourite performances on Maed in India is difficult but it’s a great exercise as we get to walk down memory lane and realise we had some of the best musicians on the show performing some bloody good music.
