It'’s a ska take over this week on Maed in India as Mae brings you some skanking music from two brilliant bands. The headliner for today are ska/reggae band The Fanculos, helmed by Ramon Ibrahim on vocals, keys & trombone, Saurabh Suman on bass, along with indie scene linchpins like Vinay Lobo on guitars (Airport / Duncun Rufus), Jehangir Jehangir on drums & Ryan Sadri on tenor saxaphone (Something Relevant). Listen to them bring down Famous studio with their big beats, big bass and bouncing tunes. But first… I’ve got a song from The Ska Vengers who have put out a new album called Double Cross (XX) out this month.

This week I’ve got pop singer-songwriter Maalvika Manoj aka Mali. A young girl from Chennai who moved kit and kaboodle to Bombay with nothing but her music and her dreams. After her smattering of gigs around Bombay, and the release of her single 'Walk Away', she garnered the attention of music festival organisers and the likes of music directors Salim Merchant and Harris Jayaraj. Listen to her perform her unreleased music, talk about her debut album Deception, why she moved to Bombay, and how we met at a band hunt in Chennai. Kicking off the show, I have an original song by one of the biggest cover bands in India, The Other People who featured on Ep.6 of Maed in India.

From just a local lad living in a Kurla chawl to a high-flying rapper gigging across the country and working with some of the best producers in India. Naved Shaikh aka Naezy is our headliner on Maed in India this week as he talks about his debut album coming out this year and how doing what he loves is still a struggle for him regardless of his success. He also throws down some of his raps and new unreleased material from his upcoming record. The opening act for this episode is blues-soul singer-songwriter Naina Kundu, who features on next week's show.
PS. For this interview, Naezy felt more comfortable chatting in Hindi with me, and currently, my own Hindi-speaking and Hindi-understanding skills are very much sub-par. I did try but you can tell that I was seriously struggling. Naezy was a sweetheart and phenomenally patient with me. I hope you too can please bare with me and the failings on my part. Though, one thing I will guarantee is that you will be entertained.
Naina Kundu 'Peter Pan'
Naezy 'Aafat!' 'Mere Gully Mein' 'Policewala'
