BLM uprisings and continued attacks on Mexican street vendors have been in the news. I want to encourage people support BLM and not fall victim to the bait put out by instagram users when they attack vendors.

This poem is dedicated to all the educators who recognize the importance of every child and who go out of their way to not only teach them but also to expect the very best from them. When we raise the level of expectations, our children deliver! Failure to expect anything less is on us as adults because we are all “maestros” y “maestras” in their little eyes.

Growing up in a traditional Mexican family was fun, interesting, & scary. Our culture was filled with food, music, smiles & tears. On Mother’s Day, like many other cultures, we honor AMA... But I also speak about the men in our lives and how we can play a role in the lives of those little ones coming.

We have seen large angry mobs of mostly white men with guns demanding that we open up the economy. Many with Trump signs and some even brought Nazi flags. So who are they, really? And why do they pose a threat to workers, mainly people of color and mainly women? On this weeks episode I will expose this movement and call for all of us to stand with workers on May 1st, 2020!

Today I speak about the history of cannabis. I speak of the racist laws passed in the U.S. to make cannabis illegal and I address the state laws that, despite being passed, most likely will be defeated by a conservative Supreme Court. Finally, I will address the inequalities in the cannabis industry and how things can improve. Special note: I personally don’t smoke “weed” and will not glamorize it’s use but I do support others who may want to self medicate, especially during these COVID 19 crisis.

“May Day” is the celebration of workers around the world. With the order from our governments to stay home due to the Coronavirus, something just doesn’t feel right... Have we been frightened into inactivity and therefore silence in a time when we should stand up for the least paid & least appreciated in society? Today I discuss why everyone should take a stand on May 1, 2020, in solidarity with all workers, especially those we consider “essential” yet fail to protect during a time of crisis. But first, a quick story about the “palo de las tortillas!”

In this episode we look at some of the factors (including the “digital divide”) that still make it difficult for immigrants & poor people to stay “connected” during the COVID 19 crisis. In addition, I point out the myths as to why public school teachers should not be compared to private/for profit schools. I also recognize the number #1 teachers (mom and dads) in a child’s life & what role us educators play in raising that child.

In this episode I will speak to educators, parents, & political leaders about the dangers of allowing “distance learning” to become a replacement for schools. Some will try to exploit this crisis and replace public school teachers with a system of privatized, money making, & virtual brain washing factories. We cannot lose that human connection where teaching is more than online lessons that benefit “corporate” educators. Teaching the young is the most revolutionary act we can do... so let’s do it!
