Former Saracens and England flanker Maggie Alphonsi grew up in the borough of Lewisham to a single parent family. A club foot was something which she would overcome in her pursuit of success. In her career, Maggie was named the Sunday Times Sports Woman of the Year, was a Six Nations Grand Slam Winner six times, and was the first woman to win the Rugby Union Writers Club Player of the Year. In the 2012 birthday honours, she was awarded an MBE for her Services to Rugby and now has become a regular pundit on ITV’s coverage of the Six Nations and World Cup.
