As Paul and his fellow missionaries touch down in Europe, they soon come into contact with the first of three key characters in Acts 16 - a lady known to us as Lydia. She is successful, spiritual, and yet a stranger to the gospel. But, through the Word spoken, the Lord opens her heart to believe. --These verses describe a groundbreaking expedition, a gospel presentation, and a godly operation. Lydia's comparatively simple conversion is still-as is the case for all believers-the sovereign and miraculous work of God.

David was in the wilderness, seeking the God whom he had known and enjoyed in Jerusalem.--The opening verses of Psalm 63 give us an insight into the relationship that David enjoyed with God, the appetite that he had for God, and the experience that he sought of God.--In all this, he is a model for every believer's desire to know our God not just in times of easy access to the appointed public means of grace, but even-perhaps, especially-in times of deprivation and difficulty.
