Take this job and...well, you know the rest of the song. "The Great Resignation", or should it be called, "The Great Discontent." Regardless of what you call it, the fact is millions of workers are leaving their jobs. A Microsoft survey of more than 30,000 global workers showed that 41% of workers were considering quitting or changing professions. In the US, 4 million workers left their jobs in April alone. It is now estimated that two thirds of American workers are now planning on, or at least thinking about leaving their job this fall. The financial cost to organizations having to replace these workers are staggering! So what are the reasons behind this mass exodus? Lack of resilience? The grass is greener in millions of different places all at once? Or could it be that organizations simply have not figured out that culture, inclusion, altruism, and intelligent leadership are the keys to employee retention and ultimately, success. Christine Burandt, HR expert, joins us on this episode of Mainline Leaders ACT.

One of the fastest growing trends in employee enticement are the various perks being offered to get employees to walk through the door. Most employers offer a mix of standard benefits such as competitive wages, medical and dental insurance, tuition reimbursement, and 401K. are offering perks such as zen rooms, onsite yoga sessions, unlimited PTO, gourmet coffee bars, free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pool tables, foosball tables, hoverboards (I would love to see this organization’s safety records), leather couches in the breakrooms, gas firepits, open mics in the breakrooms for Ted Talk style lunches, and 100% paid maternity/paternity leave for six weeks including a year supply of diapers (I do have to admit, that is a very cool perk). Each of these organizations tout these benefits as part of their culture. However, this begs the question, why is there still a struggle to find and keep good talent? The number one reason for employee turnover, regardless of the industry, is poor leadership. Rich and Maikel will be discussing why Executive Coaching should be the first item on the list for recruiting and retention.
